Guest BlueBrett Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Did they abandon this guideline for applying the off-side law? It seems like in recent seasons players are given off if just the tiniest part of their body is sticking out beyond the defender and in those cases the pundits always put their little line across the screen and say 'look you can see he's clearly off' or something similar and I haven't heard a commentator refer to daylight in years. Have I just missed its revocation or has everybody forgotten about it? For what it's worth I actually think it was/is a pretty decent guideline for linos although I always wondered why they didn't just say if both your feet are beyond the last man you are off.
DB11 Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 I hope you're joking, or just a WUM. An ex-commentator's opinion was that there should be daylight means he's right? No. Daylight has never ever been mentioned in either the law or the guidelines on how to apply the law. If any part of his body that can legally play the ball is in an offside position, then he's offside. Whether he's penalised for being in that offside position is a different matter, and more complex.
