Ilkeston_Fox Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 The best way to show the middle finger to this bunch of disrespectful cretins is to go out and show your support/respect at your local remembrance ceremony. My Grandfather was in the RAF for many years and told me a few stories when I was a child. He died of cancer when I was 13, long before I could really understand his stories. I know he never told me half of what he did or saw during his time, but he left such an impact on me all those years ago that when I left school I went to my local Armed Forces careers office to try and join the army. Unfortunately I was told that I couldn't join ( I've had too many injuries on my knee). Unperturbed by this I felt that I wanted to serve the community in some small way, so after a few years I joined the police as a Special Constable. Plastic copper or not, trust me, I see a different side to my local community that I didn't know existed (both for good reasons and for bad - the riots not long ago bearing evidence on both sides). I have tried to grow up the way my parents and grandparents would have wanted - with respect and gratitude. Tomorrow/today (I've not been to sleep yet), I will be on duty in Nottingham for the remembrance ceremony and I will have nothing but sheer pride in doing so. So to 'Hell for Heroes' I say this; burn what you like, desecrate what you will, but remember this, you'll never break a will of a nation. We remember those who fell from long before we were born, those who didn't chose to join the armed forces because it offered a good career, but because the nation needed every person it could muster in order for you and I to be here today. We continue to honour those who serve today and those who will serve in the future. Help for Heroes, and heroes they all are! I'll be wearing my poppy with pride, I will remember them.
