davieG Posted 30 August 2012 Share Posted 30 August 2012 City’s Under-21s play their first home game in the newly-formed Professional Development League on Monday night (3 September), with Crewe Alexandra the visitors to King Power Stadium (kick-off 7pm). Established as part of the Elite Player Performance Plan, the new Under-21 league has been set up to give clubs a competitive platform on which to develop its young professionals, bridging the gap between youth team football and the first team ranks. Competition rules also allow clubs to field up to three over-age players and an over-age goalkeeper in PDL matches, opening the door for the involvement of established senior professionals in need of competitive match time. City’s first two outings in the PDL have been hugely entertaining. Goals from Tom Hopper and Harry Panayiotou secured a 2-2 draw at Wigan on matchday one, while Michael Cain was on target twice on Monday as the young Foxes were narrowly beaten 3-2 at Derby County. Monday’s visit of the Alex will again see a squad of primarily young professionals in action, with the likes of Cian Bolger, George Taft and Jacob Blyth likely to feature. Admission for the game will be priced £3 for Adults, £1 for Under-18s, FREE for Under-8s and will be payable on the turnstile on the night. Kick-off is at 7pm.
