davieG Posted 18 July 2013 Posted 18 July 2013 Drivers using Leicester’s ring road have been warned about delays caused by a lane closure. Engineers are to demolish a 12 metre section of wall near the Southgates Underpass which will require its one of its eastbound lane to be shut for up to five days. The lane will close from 9.30am on Monday (22). The wall is being removed to make room for a wider pavement for pedestrians and cyclists as part of the £700,000 reconstruction of Southgates. Workmen will also carry out carriageway repairs, lighting maintenance and barrier repairs, while the lane closure is in place. Council head of highways Martin Fletcher said: “We would normally only close a lane at this location overnight or on a Sunday. “However, on this occasion the level of noise will be considerable and would affect nearby residents and church services. “Drivers are advised to expect delays and we apologise for any disruption.†The measures are the first phase of a project to extend New Walk into the city centre and create a separate cycle lane along Newarke Street into Southgates and to the proposed Jubilee Square. The city council successfully bid for £550,000 from the Department for Transport’s ‘Cycle Safety Fund’ towards the project.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 July 2013 Posted 18 July 2013 So THAT'S why Newarke street has a lane closed with absolutely no fvcking works going on. I Guess they're measuring the traffic that drives down there?
