Rincewind Posted 7 August 2013 Posted 7 August 2013 Interesting website. http://www.soldiersoffthestreet.org/
Mack Posted 8 August 2013 Posted 8 August 2013 I know some ex soldiers. They are trained in many ways not to think, just to do what they are told. This leads to a problem when they leave because there is no one to tell them when to get up, when to sleep, eat, shit, fight etc. However they do come out often with many skills that are transferable to the civilian employment market and with a little positivity and forward thinking rather than looking to the past many achieve good things with the rest of their lives. Whilst I do think the Army could do more to help them post service, their budget is being cut so much that they just don't have the resources to do so. If you cant help yourself who else will? Harsh but the bottom line.
WhatsHisName Posted 8 August 2013 Posted 8 August 2013 Many people don't know about how man ex soldiers are homeless. It's shocking how so many who have risked their lives for us, end up on the streets
Rincewind Posted 8 August 2013 Author Posted 8 August 2013 One of the reasons which also applies to children that have been in care, is that when they go into the real world they have little experience of living on their own and managing finances and social intigreation. (sp) plus there can be hidden mental issues.
Ghost Troop Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 I think the public will become more and more aware of this issue. Over the coming years hundreds of young men (and women) who have experienced intense and violent combat will leave the security of the armed forces. As previously stated we have a patchy record on dealing with PTSD in ex-servicemen. Some will just get on with their new life, some will be unable to.
