Head To Head: Ipswich

We take a look back at previous meetings between the two sides and reveal all the facts and figues ahead of the game.

HEAD TO HEAD

The two clubs have met 54 times previously, with 52 of those clashes coming with points at stake. Leicester have won 12 but lost nine of the 27 games played in Leicester. However, City have yet to register a home win over Ipswich at this level, and have actually lost five of the eight previous meetings.

EARLY MEETINGS

The first ever meeting came in Division One as recently as 1961-62. Ipswich completed the double over City en route to the League Championship under the guidance of Alf Ramsey, including a 2-0 triumph on their first visit to Filbert Street. The following season there were three meetings, and City won them all.

RECENT HISTORY

Last season the teams drew 2-2 at the Walkers Stadium, in a game that was marked by Matt Heath scoring at both ends. Indeed, Town have not lost in Leicester since 2000-01, when Ade Akinbiyi and Matt Elliott did the damage.

BIGGEST WINS

The 6-1 reverse in Suffolk three seasons ago was Ipswich's biggest win to date over the Foxes. City's best was a 5-0 win at Filbert Street in 1973-74, when Frank Worthington netted a hat-trick in a fixture that was actually staged on a Saturday evening.

SEQUENCES

Ipswich are unbeaten in their last seven games against City overall and also in their last three visits to Leicester.

GOALSCORING HEROES

Frank Worthington remains the only player to net a hat-trick in meetings between the two clubs. This feat has helped him to become City's all-time leading marksman against the Tractor Boys, with five strikes overall. Ipswich's top marksman against Leicester is actually John Wark, with a total of four goals.

VILLAINS

The September 2001 fixture at Filbert Street was marked by red cards for City's Lee Marshall and also for Matteo Sereni for the visitors. Prior to that, Paul Reid had also taken an early bath after facing the Tractor Boys, in October 1990, also here in Leicester.

RED FACES

Both fixtures last season were marked by own goals from Foxes' players. Matt Heath's own goal saved a point for Town at the Walkers Stadium, whilst a Mark de Vries slip proved vital as City went down 1-2 at Portman Road. No Ipswich defender has contributed to City's cause since Kevin Beattie in that record 5-0 win back in January 1974.

DEBUTANTS

Eleven Leicester players have made their bow when facing Ipswich. The list includes Tony Brien, Steve Claridge, Simon Grayson, Gary McAllister, Jim Melrose and Ian Walker.

FOOT IN BOTH CAMPS

The smattering of players to have represented both clubs over the years includes Marcus Bent, Paul Cooper, Mich D'Avray, Matt Elliott, Mark Grew, Bobby Kellard, David Lowe, Chris Makin, Russell Osman, James Scowcroft, Roy Stephenson and Mark Venus.
