Arsenal away - our ultimate graveyard fixture

Recommended Posts

On the 8th of September 1973, Leicester City beat Arsenal 2-0 in a match in the old First Division at Highbury. The late Jimmy Bloomfield was the club's manager and the goals were scored by Lenny Glover and Mike Stringfellow.

At the time Edward Heath was the British Prime Minister, Richard Nixon was the US president.

George Foreman was the Heavyweight boxing Champion of the world, Jackie Stewart was the Formula One World Champion and the Wimbledon Mens Tennis title had recently been won by the Czech player Jan Kodes.

Donny Osmond was Number One in the charts with ''Young Love''. The 1970s were getting into full-swing and it was a different world back then. It was also the last time to date that Leicester beat Arsenal in an away match.

Since then the results read as follows:

10/09/74 - drew 1-1 (Lg Cup)

21/12/74 - drew 0-0 (Div 1)

15/02/75 - drew 0-0 (FA Cup)

06/09/75 - drew 1-1 (Div 1)

02/04/77 - lost 3-0 (Div 1)

17/09/77 - lost 2-1 (Div 1)

04/10/80 - lost 1-0 Div 1)

28/04/84 - lost 2-1 (Div 1)

16/03/85 - lost 2-0 (Div 1)

31/08/85 - lost 1-0 (Div 1)

20/04/87 - lost 4-1 (Div 1)

08/10/91 - lost 2-0 (Lg Cup)

27/02/95 - drew 1-1 (PL)

12/04/97 - lost 2-0 (PL)

26/12/97 - lost 2-1 (PL)

20/02/99 - lost 5-0 (PL)

01/08/99 - lost 1-0 (PL)

09/01/00 - drew 0-0 (FA Cup)

26/12/00 - lost 6-1 (PL)

25/08/01 - lost 4-0 (PL)

15/05/04 - lost 2-1 (PL)

11/02/15 - lost 2-1 (PL)

Tonight's result makes it 22 matches without a win at Arsenal, stretching back 42 years. In that time we've garnered just 3 out of 49 available league points, scored 10 goals and conceded a grand total of 44.

If anyone out there knows of a worse away fixture for us I'd be grateful to hear of it. But then on second thoughts, maybe not.
