The defender was one of Nigel Pearson's first signings as City boss - quite a compliment from a manager with such a good reputation as a defender in his playing days. Coming through the Lincoln City youth ranks, Liverpool caught an eye of his talents and promptly snapped him up. He made just two first-team appearances for the Premier League giants and was sent out to City on a season-long loan in 2009-10 to get first-team experience.
He excelled for the Foxes, being a key cog in the defence that helped win promotion back to the Championship. His success saw him named in the PFA League One Team of the Year and City supporters' club Young Player of the Year. He also penned a permanent deal with the club for the start of next season,a four-year deal, and he enjoyed similar success in the Championship, winning the club's Player of the Year award and Players' Player of the Year (alongside Andy King) and helping the Foxes to the play-offs.
As with a lot of the players at the time, the arrival of Sven-Goran Eriksson, and an injection of cash from the new Thai owners, saw Hobbs fall down the pecking order somewhat the following season, and he followed former City boss Nigel Pearson to Hull City on-loan before making that switch permanent.
