Stafford-born Rowson was an early Fox, playing for the club before its league days when he joined in 1890 from local side Leicester Wanderers.
He played just six matches in the Midland League but did make two appearances in the FA Cup in the club's first outings in the world-famous competition. Indeed, his debut came in the FA Cup in October 1890 in a home clash against Burton Wanderers.
His first team appearances for City were rare but he did win the County Cup with Leicester on two occasions - in 1890 and the following season. His success also saw him represent Leicestershire.
Beyond his time with the club he went on to play for Leicester YMCA and he stayed on to live, and work, in the city when his playing days were at an end.
