Dogs
in General Chat
Our Boy turned 12 months old this week and it's been quite the experience!! 🤣🤣🤣 Puppies are HARD work.
BUT.... it's got me out and about more and I've lost over a stone as a result of just walking more.
My wife started a Facebook page, sharing walks and dog friendly venues. Roll forward to Friday night and I thought to myself ",I'm sure I could make a website out of this".
My toxic trait is thinking I can figure out how to do things I have no idea how to do!...
The result though.....
www.murphyandme.co.uk
Please check it out, share, and give me feedback. I'd LOVE this to become a thing.
My brain is saying "obviously this will become the dog version of trip advisor".... In reality, I just hope it helps people discover places for them and their canine companions!

Why would Boro have had all this time? They've only just been reinstated. They're gonna be calling players back from Dubai and 'Beefa!
They stayed training in case this was the outcome.

No chance that the sponsors and broadcasters would accept their biggest game of the season not being played. Harsh on Hull but there was zero chance that they were cancelling the game altogether.
I agree. But that isn't what I was saying.

You know Hull and Middlesbrough have played each other twice this season?
Sure.... But Hull WILL have been preparing for a game against Southampton. Training drills will have been built around their known patterns of play and strengths / weaknesses....
Now they have to pivot to Middlesbrough at short notice.
Middlesbrough will have had all this time to train and drill against Hulls patterns. It's an advantage without a doubt.

Fascinating what they do with Eckert if he gave the command to do it all. Surely he has to walk.
So there's a chance we could get him??? 🤣

For the integrity of the competition, they should have just promoted Hull. it doesn't feel right that Middlesbrough get a stab at the final. They will have had a disproportionate amount of time to prepare against a known opposition. Something Hull won't have had the benefit of.

I love vardy... probably my only true sporting hero..... BUT... what evidence do we have that playing alongside him or having him in the squad will improve the other strikers? Didn't work for Daka did it... or kelechi, or kramaric....
I think we need to except that his time with us was special, but that the club needs to evolve.

"Left Wing" political parties biggest problems, in both Britain and America, is that they stopped actually being left wing political parties around the late 90s and now that's exactly what the world needs.
Labour and the Dems both turned themselves in to the parties of middle class, neo-liberal changephobes and corporate interests. It got them an uptick in popularity at the time because they hung on (for a while) to their working class base who they thought would never change allegiance and they gained a whole swathe of the middle.
But then a global financial crisis happened and that's just steadily rolled in to another and another over the last two decades and every time we have some major cost of living escalation, the richest still get richer.
It's now twenty odd years later and Labour still don't have a clue how to talk to, let alone win back, the white working class. It started with Gordon Brown's "bigoted woman" and it's come all the way to today's Kier Starmer.
Even John Major made the point recently, talking about how the Labour Party he was used to fighting was made up of working class socialists that kept British politics in check and gave an actual voice to the working electorate. Now the Labour Party is a bunch of upper middle class bankers, lawyers and career politicians that's indistinguishable from the Tories except for being less corrupt than Johnson's hilarious cabinet.
Reform are just political vultures funded by bad actors representing the interests of anyone that can afford to pay, be that billionaires or Russia. Farage doesn't care, he'll take anyone's money and say anything to get in power and get rich. He's just the Trump of the UK, a vile, traitorous, self interested leech. Nobody with any sense should vote for him. He'll cause significant harm to the lives and the wallets of the common citizen in this country.
But Labour have to do a much better job at presenting an alternative. They need to wake the **** up and accept that most of the country are fed up and want change. They've been dealt a horrible hand, it's not exactly an overnight job to fix the economy and they've got to constantly fight Rupert Murdoch and the overwhelming right wing bias of our news infrastructure but that still. Isn't an excuse for just how bad they are and how out of touch they are.
And if they go with Streeting, who is about as right wing as you get in senior Labour ministers, then they've learned absolutely nothing and we're ****ed.
it goes beyond this though doesn't it.
Our politics isn't set up to actually tackle the REALLY hard problems to solve... because it's daily news cycles and trying not to fall foul of public sentiment.
For the UK to move forward a few fundamental conversations need to be had -
- how do we reform the Welfare State that almost makes it more attractive to be on benefits than in low paid work - they tried to do this, but it caused a labour rebellion
- how do we continue to fund our state pension, when we have a declining birth rate and an increasing pensioner class - Especially when "immigration" is a toxic conversation
- How do we move away from unfunded Public Sector pensions and align them closer to those available in the Private Sector - unions will kick up merry hell about this
- How do we renew the UK infrastructure when we operate in 5 year parlimentary cycles - it needs BIG investment, but we don't have the political will to do this
- How do we make more housing available, when by increasing supply, it's likely to have a negative impact on the vast majority of "wealth" in UK families (their property) - falling house prices will be heavily criticised and potentially disastorous for our Mortgage model in the UK.
- How do we evolve away from a service led economy to one which targets the industries of the future?
- How do we evolve our energy infrastructure to try to protect against climate change and reliance on ourseas supply? - Most of our energy companies are owned by foreign companies.
None of these are easy problems to solve for ANY party, and even more so under the toxic UK media.
in short........ until the above are addressed

I don't really understand where the distaste for Streeting comes from? He's done a decent job so far with the NHS and he is a strong orator. I suspect he would give Farage a punch on the nose or two.
if I had to pick, it probably WOULD be streeting. I like what Burnham stands for in terms of his Mayoral politics, he is very cross party and collaborative which is how I think politics SHOULD work... but lets be honest, that approach doesn't translate well into Westminster, unless he is suddenly going to introduce PR.
Starmers shortcomings are obvious, but honestly, as a prime minister... he's done alright, especially on foreign policy and approach - which lets be honest - there's been a heavy need for!
His biggest drawback, is that he fails to paint the picture of hope and tell the story of where he wants to take us as a country.
not helped by the fact that 80% of the UK media are wanting him to fail anyway.

At what he did.... Vardy WAS world class. he wasn't a "complete" striker... But in terms of playing on the shoulder, running in behind, there were very very few better.
Look at his shots to goal ratio, it's insane.
all those other strikers mentioned played a different game.
If Vardy had been at Utd, he would be seen as one of the PL Greats.

I may turn out to be wrong on this statement....
But IF people are expecting us to land Russell Martin, Scott Parker or managers of that ilk, then are going to be very disappointed with who we manage to land in League One.
I still laugh now at the time that people on here turned their nose up at Emery before he went to Villa, as he "wasn't the calibre we needed" at the time.
We will either get a big name with no managerial pedigree, starting out their managerial career - Wilshire, Cleverley, Mason etc........ or a name that's a bit past it now, - Mowbray, Bruce, Smith,
none of it is going to be pretty, or inspiring.
-
The family stuff is all well and good, but who is left that knew vichai?? At that point, it's just pictures on a wall.
-
It was our biggest mistake this season. Even a bang average championship striker in place, would probably have kept us up.

I hate things like this.
You can’t predict because the market is activated when the club is advertised for sale.
All I’ll say is, I think someone fairly lucrative would. Our story, is a fantastic poster for any business/consortium, that’s the unique difference between us and anyone else.
OR a millstone around their neck..

Leon Mcsweeney? Wouldn't be against it
I said this yesterday... Albeit, given the failed King experiment, they might be reluctant...

As a fan base, we've always said our promising youngsters need a league one loan... Genuinely, the great news next year is that most of our squad will be made up of academy prospects. We can't afford to sign many (if any) players.
The one silver lining is that we might see some breakthrough seasons for our youngsters and see if they are really as good as some people claim them to be.

Leon McSweeney as First team manager and bringing through the youngsters??

Why would you not have Andy 🗝️ as his assistant???

because that's what happens when certain factions appropriate a symbol to further a distasteful cause. The swastika (or it's pre-nazi established version) was a sign of good fortune and good luck... I don't think you can blame society as a whole for an association that has been rammed down everyone's throats for 12 months by those wanting to promote a viewpoint.
