Realistically we the following players ought to be involved with the 1st team next season if they all remain here:

    Bade Aluko

    Jayden Joseph

    Tom Wilson-Brown

    Kevon Gray

    Sammy Braybrooke

    Henry Cartwright

    Louis Page

    Logan Briggs

    Will Alves

    Jake Evans

    Lorenz Hutchinson

    Kirsten Otchere

Then be interesting to see the likes of Riley Carr, Tommy Neale, Mirsad Ali and Hugo De Lisle may well come through and challenge, some of them still very young and others 19/20 but if we are ravaged squad wise from senior players (hopefully most of the current lot go) then many are going to be needed.

Might even be others from U16/18s we aren't yet too familiar with. Sadly I think Motsi won't be here.

Tbf with those could see Joseph, Braybrooke, Page, Alves, Briggs and Evans all doing fairly well in Martin’s set up, maybe Aluko too if he goes with a back 3. Sort of players he uses are in their style, Evans especially could be the Armstrong of this side

Alan Nixon has a further update  on our manager search tomorrow

It’ll either be Martin has agreed terms or it’ll be backtracking from that rumour, no other update exists at this point after what he has said recently. Hate how much this matters and how painful it has been made, it’s never ending nightmare supporting this club, we can’t even enjoy the off season

Honestly, I'm a bit more lenient on the club for this one because I think it's a noble idea, but it looks less and less realistic with each passing month that this works in our favour and with how much it costs us it's become a real issue.

I agree with most of what you say here btw, I'd like it to become something that not only supplements our first team but becomes like a passive income as well as we sell the odd player each year from it to help cover the costs. But this can only work if we're any good at first team level. In League One it's a noose around our neck.

We as a club seemingly can't even be arsed to properly scout players anymore so the odds of us doing anything slightly quirky to use it to make money on the side seems optimistic. As ever, like I alluded to in another thread if you draw a flow chart of every situation you're presented with regarding LCFC it comes back to needing new ownership basically every single time.

Can’t disagree with any of this. Regardless of opinions we have it all does circle back to the completely embarrassing ownership and running of the club, all roads lead to the same destination

Chilwell left before Seagrave was opened and Barnes and KDH had broken into the team or thereabouts before it was built as well.

I don't think is 100% the fault of the club this time. I do think this is a quite broken system where Liverpool can take a player off us for essentially nothing. Something I'd like to think we used as an argument in our favour during the court rulings.

But within those constraints I don't think we've given ourselves the best opportunity either for reasons outlined in this thread. Aluko and Page were substantially underused this season.

And if top clubs are still able to pinch the best ones off us for nothing then I don't think you can really say it's going to be worth it. Our training ground would supplement a top club. For us I think it's a bit of a noose around our neck - it's never going to pay for itself.

That's before you even know how much you can really attribute the success of these players to Seagrave as well. Is Monga good because of Seagrave, or is Monga good because he's a good player? In-fact actually he looks less promising than he did 12 months ago.

True, I was moreso going for the angle of being able to produce the talent more now, as I see 4/5 youngsters who could be those types coming through. The above post about it being 14m a year was something I wasn’t necessarily aware of but also when I say our use I mean moreso the opportunities to use the space to create income. Through my work for example I know Arsenal make a large amount of money creating and selling renewable energy at theirs, and there is ample space for us to do this, we could also look to rent out sections of it, sell Belvoir and move the women’s team in too etc.

However at 14 a year is not an easy number to reach tbf, but as much of a nightmare as that is I do think we have had many chances to mitigate the cost slightly and seem to have chosen not to do anything at all

If we're going to lose players to the big teams for peanuts (like when Liverpool took Nyoni and never had to actually pay anything) then it really renders Seagrave a bit useless and I've been one of those who generally defended the building of it. The cost vs the reward are skewed well against us unless we're a top half Premier League side.

Don’t completely agree here, although it is very frustrating realistically it’ll be the top 1% who get swooped like this, we are still producing a massive amount of sellable talent, even if Motsi, Monga and Page do go we still have millions in talent and it may be the only thing that saves us from the completely inept running of the club especially with transfers. Guys like KDH, Barnes, Chilwell who were not massively rated made millions for us, as long as we can keep some of the guys who are a level below the Motsi’s and Monga’s at that age I think it’ll end up being worthwhile in that regard. Main issue I have with seagrave is more the way we have used it and haven’t taken advantage of the opportunities it presents

  7. Think for me I just desperately wanted someone with a bit of versatility for once, so if we do move on or they move on we won’t be scrambling for a ‘new version’ of the old manager, which I don’t think tends to work out unless you are a top top level team. It’s how we we ended up getting relegated from the Prem twice over

I'm very confused, are you saying that you asked Nixon (in his Comments section?) about Martin .... or Challinor? The reply you got (from Nixon?) is Blackburn were interested (in Martin or Challinor?) and we are way down the line for him (Martin or Challinor?). As far as I'm aware, Blackburn have never expressed any interest in Martin .... but they have in Challinor and we have never expressed any interest in Challinor!! Who are you talking about?!

Martin mate, it was at the end of one his articles that Blackburn were interested in Martin and his Sunday story with regards to us was that he was pretty much through the door- his exact words are ‘Blackburn having Martin on their list but Leicester being well down the line for him’. Would add I didn’t ask specifically about Martin just what the Leicester story was and that was his response

  9. He isn’t world class nor do I believe he ever will be but let’s not lose the distinction between that and not being prem level. Being rapid with a good strike and cross, which he currently has, will be enough for him to be a functional prem winger. If he had everything he’d be playing for Real Madrid, he is still absolutely a class above us and has been for a while, he will go to a mid table club and build a very good top flight career for himself once he gets out of our mess, if you don’t think he will play in a top 5 European division I think you are a bit nuts

Why does everyone hate Russel Martin so much ? Genuine question

His football marries being completely unable to defend with being completely unable to build any sort of attack without his entire 11 in the opposition half. Also king of giving away stupid unnecessary goals. His time at Rangers was catastrophic as was his time in the prem with Southampton. Extremely short sighted appointment as he will be alright as long as he has the best team in the league, but when we get promoted out of our teams depth we will be found out and won’t have the squad available to change our set up- basically what it has been the past 3 years

It would be if it were an appointment without thought, but they have had a very long time since relegation, since which a whole raft of teams have brought in managers and new signings, and we are still getting tweets about a charity match(after our relegation and prior to what is in all likelihood going to be the lowest finish in our clubs history) and we still don’t even know if our part time manager is staying or going. We are about to hit June, we need to be preparing at this point for pre season and putting a squad and playing style together. We are falling into the exact same trap of the past 3 years, and when we have taken time in that period to hire, they have been arguably the worst managerial hires across the entirety of the UK, let alone in our league. At this point with our process I do agree that we should just hire, at least even if it isn’t the right person which it wouldn’t be anyway, they have time to put together their own squad during this reset and sign some of the more sought after freebies

Changed my mind lads take your time 😭

Think you're being a bit loose & free with the "whole raft of teams have brought in managers & new signings......" wording as there are still 5 or 6 championship clubs with vacant positions which is pretty much as per the end of season, as well as 2 Prem clubs dropping requiring coaching staff also, ok now Nuno is staying so 1 but that was only agreed lastnight but had he not that would also cause a ripple of management movements depending on who they replaced him with.
All of those Championship clubs have been linked to names mentioned in this chat & all those clubs can offer more currently, even if short term.
It is off season & most clubs would shut down for a set period to get holidays in but i'm sure phones will be going just as agents are buzzing about, pick any name from the list of possible candidates & you can bet his agent has touted him to those 5, 6, 7 championship clubs as well as clubs abroad.

Player wise i would expect it to possibly take longer to secure top targets, 1 wait for manager if we truely want to be joined up, 2 better options for them, 3 World Cup year & whilst we & clubs around us arn't getting premier lge quality players the pyramid needs movement from the top to filter money to the bottom & that could come after the WC.
Players don't usually return from summer break until late June beginning of July & the league starts a little later this year on the 14th August (all bit there is a Carabao cup game the week before)
The transfer window isn't actually open until the 15th June & closes 1st September, it's currently 28th May do we want to spend any cash we have on agent fees & wages of free agents?

There's a lot more variables to it than waking up going downstairs putting a pot of coffee on & making a deal on the phone, regardless of how many days its been since relegation.

Very fair points, and I do accept a lot of what you have said and do agree with your last paragraph in particular, but that also does lend into what I have said, the time it takes to plan transfers and the fact we will need essentially a new squad and will need to sign players to our new managers plan means that free agency is massive for us. Ideally I think you would want to be at the point now where you have an idea of the manager and can start planning and scouting specifically to his idea of our future and how we will set up, and ideally do so in plenty of time to be able to approach the higher priority free agents, I.e the youngsters being released from premier league teams.

It is a complicated thing and if it were any other team I would be far more willing to accept it, but it is just another year where it feels we are doing the same things all over. Will be happy to hold my hands up and admit I’m wrong if it works out better.

Would also argue with our limited resources and massive needs we will need to target free agency and free signings
