You can argue it either way.

I can genuinely say at school we were taught about all those different events. My class mates had all sorts of heritage. So it exists at that level. At happens at workplaces too where people share customs and discussions are has.

Communities tend to live where they stay comfortable but as particularly the younger Asian generation here has become woven in society, particularly those who’ve done well for themselves (and thinking to my old school mates) they live in different areas from the traditional Asian communities are based. It just takes time to change attitudes but the city functions far more with multicultural everyday living than some.

Things have definitely changed for the better.

When I was at school Asian refugees were just starting to arrive in Leicester. I remember the first one in my class - Mumtaz? who originally arrived in Leeds and then came to Leicester. The whole family had one suitcase of clothes between them and no warm winter clothing.

The thickest boy in the class said he was going to join the National Front and go Paki-bashing. I don't think that lasted very long as Asian families are very much all for one and one for all. Attack one and the whole family will sort you out.

Ever since then I have hated fascists and the hard-right racists in the Tory Party, who are much the same thing. And I am glad to see Braverman get taken down for her remarks about Leicester.

  2. I was puzzled by what an Eastern Region loco might be doing at London Road and I am pretty certain the station was Leicester Central. The black and white picture has the same style stanchions on the canopy.

The engine in the picture is not Gordon. Gordon the engine in Awdry's books, like all of his creations, is based on a real locomotive and was an A3 Pacific, like Flying Scotsman (a much larger engine than the one in the picture).

The engine in the picture was most likely a B1 or a B17. I can't say for definite because I can't see the wheels and running plate for all the people standing on the platform.

Just thinking ... it might have been 61665 Leicester City. Many of these engines were named after Football League teams, mostly in towns and cities served by the Eastern Region. There is even a Hornby model of 61665.

Interesting post and a good look into Leicester's past.

You'd have shuttle down the main line and then reverse into Leicester and vice versa

To make the line a real asset to both NW Leicestershire and the city centre it would make sense to persuade the businesses in the southern end of the Freeman's Common industrial estate to relocate. Then the chord which used to link the line from Coalville/Ashby to the Midland Main Line going northbound could be reinstated.

Haha I was thinking my best purchase was my divorce, before I realised I didn't actually pay for it lol

I paid for mine and although it cost a lot of money I kept my house, which I now own outright, and all my pensions.

Best = My VW campervan, paid £2000 for it plus a fair bit more getting it converted. I've been all over the UK and Europe in it on some amazing adventures.

Worst = Probably the Ukelele I bought thinking I would learn it, it; still in the garage never been out the box!

How long ago did you buy that VW? Vans are silly prices at the moment and a VW for £2000 has probably been to the moon and back.

Yeah I’ve seen the vid. I’m only going off Hamesh DeBretton was saying tbf, I am by no means an expert - something to do with the release of stored ammo on impact and an internal fire system. At least all the crew survived. Expect to see more and Moscow will parade the images like the 2nd coming.

Russia has already claimed to have destroyed 23 Challengers and the UK only sent Ukraine 14. So this is the 24th out of 14!

We used to have half of their kop, with just a line of coppers in between. Our fans were always all over their ground in different areas. We always took thousands there, back in the days that you could just turn up on the day and get in.

The Kop at Filbert Street was like that, I think for one season until permanent barriers divided the Kop into four pens. If the Kop was full the plod were the buffer zone between rival supporters.

I hope Trump is not tried before the 2024 election. He’s not electable and Joe Biden will wipe the floor with him. Biden will have more trouble with other Republicans

There is no underestimating the lack of intelligence of some of Trump's supporters. These are the people Jeremy Clarkson was thinking of when he said 'everybody's very fat, everybody's very stupid and everybody's very rude...' I can't remember the one where he talked about vegetables. This is my recent take on Trump in jail getting his prison haircut. Trump is cartoon gold and I have done much more unprintable than this.

Evidence that dozens of women were groomed into online sex work by members of influencer Andrew Tate's "War Room" group has been uncovered by the BBC.

Leaked internal chat logs identify 45 potential victims between March 2019 and April 2020 but the total number is likely to be higher.

The texts also appear to show the techniques used by War Room members to exploit possible victims.

This just keeps getting worse the more details come out.

Vile piece of 5h1t. I hope Romania has an unimproved hell-hole of a jail which is a relic from the Soviet era to put him in.

Chernobyl 01:23:40 by Andrew Leatherbarrow. It's the incredible story of the nuclear disaster in 1986. The numbers in the title refer to the exact time on April 26th of that year when the emergency shutdown button on Reactor No.4 was pressed, causing the permanent evacuation of nearby Pripyat due to the intense radiation emitted, which killed thousands of people. Apparently, the catastrophe was caused by a fatal design flaw in the control rods needed to moderate the fission process. They were made of neutron-absorbing boron, but had graphite ends to them, and the graphite caused greatly increased nuclear reactions, instead of the intended reduction.

I haven't read this one but I have the book by Sergii Plokhii. I have read several of his books which are always thoroughly researched and good reading.

  12. Amartey is the Alan Woollett of the current generation. Never good enough to nail down a permanent place in the team but always happy to fill in wherever he is required, and never complained about not being in the team. Woollett never scored a goal like that one though. I don't remember him scoring a goal at all, and don't even remember him going into the opposition half.

I hope the club aren't even looking at this. We've got a decent spine in the team now, let's look forward not back.

If we had to delve back in to our recent history, I'd rather see if Lennon can still run for 90 minutes over Drinkwater.

At Leicester and Celtic in the latter stages of his career he rarely ran out of the centre circle. Nobody else could get near the ball in that small space, but it is quite a small space, probably about the same size as the bar area in his local pub.

    Dennis wise on my penis

one knob to another was my thinking

And it’s never wise to touch it too much

    sorry I have had a drink 🥃🥃

I asked ChatGPT again about Dennis Wise, very carefully wording my statement. Its response is just unbelievable. Just read this!

I'm sorry, but the information you provided about Dennis Wise and his termination from Leicester City Football Club in 2002 is not accurate. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, there is no record of Dennis Wise being terminated from Leicester City FC for assaulting a teammate who was asleep in his bed.

Dennis Wise is a former professional footballer who played for several clubs during his career, including Wimbledon, Chelsea, and Leicester City. While he had his share of controversies and disciplinary issues during his playing days, I couldn't find any specific incident matching the description you provided.

It's possible that the event you mentioned occurred after my knowledge cutoff or that it was a mistaken or fabricated piece of information. If you have any other questions or need information on a different topic, feel free to ask.

  15. I just have asked ChatGPT 'Why is the former footballer Dennis Wise so detested by supporters of Leicester City?'

It came up with this grotesquely non-committal statement, which is not even truthful.

As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, there is no widespread or specific animosity towards Dennis Wise among supporters of Leicester City Football Club. However, it's worth noting that fan sentiments can evolve over time, and there may have been developments or incidents since then that have contributed to any potential change in fans' opinions. It's always a good idea to refer to up-to-date sources or engage with current Leicester City supporters for the most accurate and current information on this topic.

I put that post in word for word in ChatGPT and got this:

"One player who might be less likely to be chosen for a tattoo could be former Leicester City player Ade Akinbiyi. Akinbiyi had a relatively short and less successful stint at the club from 2000 to 2002, and he struggled to make a significant impact on the pitch during that time. While he may have had his own set of fans and supporters, his overall contribution to the club might not be seen as significant enough to warrant a tattoo for some fans."

ChatGPT generates completely unreadable gash most of the time. Not because anything is grammatically incorrect, but because it is generated by a computer program, which is completely devoid of originality and personality. I tried it out by asking it how many children Boris Johnson has fathered, and then I asked it whether Boris Johnson is a liar. Both times it came up with 'answers' which were unbelievably anodyne and non-committal. I think I will go away and ask it to write something on why Dennis Wise is so detested by Leicester City supporters.

I like to try to be fair and understanding. Another (yet) new thread mentioned Time and Tide - there are such things as Tide timetables, spelling out fixed forces of nature that you have to plan around, work with.
Traditionally the first 2 weeks or so are Football Clubs holiday time, players, coaches, staff away with families (their own…unless you’re John Terry), transfer window not open yet. Look around, other than Norwich signing a few journeymen and clubs announcing their retained lists not much is happening elsewhere.

There has been a review, no doubt some financial forecasts / discussions and if Potter had said “ Ooh goody, yes please, where do I sign” we would have a manager and coaching team in place.

However we’ve had since Brentford at home, arguably longer (reviewing who is out there should be a continuous thing) to look at managerial candidates, that’s something we should have got over the line although in-work managers and staff will likely have been on holiday until last week.

We (fans) with hindsight could have had that fortnight, getting on for 3 weeks now, off and resisted the temptation to look for news 17 times a day but equally the club could have said “f*** the tide timetables, this is a unique catastrophic situation we’re in, f*** your holidays, we have more work to do than anyone else so let’s roll up our sleeves and crack on with it. Passion, determination, going the extra yards…not this mob.

I suspect we won’t be ready for the start of the season, there will be a false / cold start then after deadline day a gradual settling down in which we’ll probably draw winnable games, lose a few too, huff and puff and look like the players have never met. We’ll be told Vestergaard’s regular inclusion is necessary there will be 2-3 injuries to “key” players no doubt but hopefully an under 23 grasps the nettle of opportunity and puts a smile on faces and hope in hearts.

The club is on a cliff edge, the decisions have to be the right ones but any remaining shred of generosity and understanding will wear thin if we don’t get a manager and players with leadership qualities in ASAP.

Another week has gone by and 10 weeks is now 8. Really good analysis of the situation and for me the only thing it misses is the longer this vacuum goes on the more likely the club is to lose key players for next season. If a new manager was announced this week and there was news of key changes at senior non-playing management level this would very likely help make up the minds of players the club would like to keep. The club needs several players who might otherwise move, to decide that they will throw in their lot with trying to seek promotion with the club they know, rather than jump ship and risk the uncertainty of moving to a new club.

Another pathetic statement that once again says nothing and shows not one iota of passion that any of us have highlighted on the many, many threads about our downfall. I'm genuinely baffled as to why you're putting out these corporate-style responses as if you have some power. Again whilst conveniently ignoring all and any questions people have legitimately raised about your structure and setup. It's like you've been taking tips from LCFC's senior leadership.

The fact you say "expect" the club to be open and honest says a lot about your relationship with the club. You're basically hoping the hierarchy actually give a shit about what you've had to ask and will reply with honest responses. We know with how locked down they are that this won't be the case, and I suspect anything even remotely confidential will be told to remain as such, or keep within your cult.

You know full well that no-one is convinced by your mealy mouthed follow-up statement, and we look forward to the non-answers you receive in the coming weeks from the club about the situation as they swat you away.

If we as a collective sent you, Foxes Trust, a "series of questions" we wouldn't expect you to be open and honest, we would demand that you were honest. I think it might be time to look at your own house first.

So Foxes Trust need to be put in the bin along with all senior management and coaching / /physio / medical staff who are not doing their job. The statement from Foxes Trust was beyond pathetic, given the circumstances.

  19. I wouldn't like Shakey to be offered the job. It didn't work when he replaced Ranieri, and he does seem to be a natural No. 2. He was respected by the players and it would be good to have him around at least until the new management team, whoever it is, is fully up to speed before the new season. I wasn't excited by Smith coming here but I really think that if Top had dismissed Bodgers with 15 matches left rather than 8, Smith, Shakespeare and Terry would have kept us up. The continuity with the success in the past might also clear the way to get rid of Sadler and Stowell, who many people seem to think are stealing a living.
