Well worth listening to the When You’re Smiling BBC podcast - really good discussion of the appointment and some interesting background on the club as well. Good job @Loxm

Romano has actually got our manager choices wrong - said Benitez and Potter when we appointed Smith and Cooper (wish he had been right though!).
But clearly on this, we’re appointing Martin - too many informed sources are saying this is happening.

Man City’s charges are not across the seasons where we finished in 5th anyway.
I guess that would also rule us out taking action against Chelsea as their breaches were between 2011 and 2018.

Is orourke normally spot on ?
Similarly to Nixon, the lower in the leagues we are, the more accurate he gets. He’s more right than not recently, called it first on Richards signing for us in the Jan transfer window.

We’re talking about Top and Rudkin, logic goes out the window. We went back to 3-4th choice Rowett and then invited Maresca to his first home game! Reputation means shit to them.
Typically, you're right but don't think BBC RL run this without some go-ahead from the club.
-
Maguire claiming sides could go after Chelsea after they were found in breach but didn't get a points punishment.
Was their breach during the season they finished 4th and we finished 5th so missed out on Champions League?
Everton upset the neutrals last season - got the draw vs Man City to derail their title charge and lost to Spurs to help them stay up - so not many fans will have sympathy with them!
-
Interesting to see what BBC RL broadcast today having reported the interest in Martin, surely they would have been briefed by the club? Not in the club's interest to put this rumour out if it wasn't close reputationally if he was to turn it down as other candidates would know they were the 2nd choice.

Very much looking forward to signing Gavin Bazunu on a 5 year deal.
The only keeper worse than Ward for shot stopping based on xG in 2022-23.

Your tiresome opinions are waffle and inaccurate.
More changeable than the recent weather.
You're being unnecessarily harsh here on @ClaphamFox - Martin didn't get the job in 2025 reportedly after fan reaction so it's not a leap to say he wouldn't be in the running this time, especially given the unpopularity of the board. It's wild they're making such a divisive move.
I think most of us are now trying to find something positive here given the appointment seems inevitable!

Yeah but you can't beat the experience that the likes of Winks, Skipp, Smallbone and Aribo have.
Isn't Martin's rep that he promotes younger players?
No fan of his but he ain't 'I prioritise experience' Rowett.

Smallbone and Aribo as a 2 next season will be fun
After we have sold Braybrooke to Wigan for £50k of course
Know you're joking but would expect Braybrooke will be key to Martin's style of play - he's exactly his type of player.

I mean for a man who apparently doesn’t like talking a lot he seems to be doing an awful lot of it 😂
Exactly! This is either going to be tremendous or absolutely sh*t - will be incredible either way!

Not supportive of Martin getting the role, but if it appears he is the preferred candidate, the club needs to give him a time limit for responding and not get messed around.
They can't afford any drift again - the manager needs to be installed asap to start planning as a huge overhaul is needed.

I think Top being so in love with Maresca plays a huge part in his decision making, Maresca’s style got us promoted before, so how do we go back and try and replicate it, unfortunately Russell Martin becomes a realistic option in that conversation.
But we all know how this will go if appointed, it’s just possession based football to another extreme.
You’re then relying on pretty much a 10/10 transfer window to make it potentially work, with so many specific players that have technical qualities, you fail to get in the right ball-playing goalkeeper, defenders and midfielders, then the style will just collapse like a house of cards.
Cardiff managed to get promoted last season by being possession dominant, but it begs the question, why on earth didn’t we just appoint Brian Barry-Murphy last summer.
Re. BBM, I think that was the plan but player power stopped him getting the role plus wanting to move on fully from Ruud's time in charge - can't remember if it was Percy or Collomosse but one of them wrote about how some of the players weren't impressed with his training sessions.

Will be the first time ever Alan Nixon was right about something.
Disappointing thing is he gets more accurate about us the lower the club is in the football league. When we had that long run in the PL, he hardly got anything right about us. We've just got to hope he's also right about potential new ownership as well.

Said he was ‘unhappy’ and it was all his decision to leave.
He did add it was nothing against the club or the club against him. So it wasn’t them directly.
Seems it was relegation and closing on 200 goals that were key.
But relegation was of course a result of Rudkin and Top’s mismanagement.
-
Two of our best attacking halves came under King - the second half vs Charlton where we battered them but then Ayew's penalty miss took all the momentum out and the first half vs. Southampton.
I think you can rightfully criticise for his game management and organising the defence, but he was let down by some sheer stupidity as well like the red cards and Thomas's challenge for Southampton's 2nd goal.

It's a smokescreen. Russell Martin's name thrown out there to get fans panicking so that when we announce Rowett, the fans will breath a collective sigh of relief, even though Rowett isn't the answer either.
LOL, you give the club far too much credit for being that Machiavellian. Moronic is a more apt description.

Oh f*ck off Liverpool. Should refuse to deal with them with how they’ve handled academy signings
I think @ramadaone said that’s what the club has done already after Nyoni left similarly.

Has he done his badges? Because if not he won’t be managing us anytime soon.
Well worth a read of his post-retirement interview:
Doesn't look like he's done his badges yet but he's open to coaching/becoming a DoF. The club has an open goal here to get him part of the set up in some way and start putting standards in place, but given how they've handled things, you expect they won't take advantage. Morgan similarly wanted a role but the club let it pass, probably to protect the untouchable Rudkin.

Yes it's really weird. Has he watched any of our title winning games, with low possession and fast transition and counter attack?
He also referenced long throws in his interviews so welcome Dave Challinor! 😂

Maybe Rudkin has secretly got a Liverpool gig explaining the inaction as looks like they're getting as bad as us in managing players running down their contract!

It’s not even about that. It’s the “moral high ground” some people try to claim. Oh Forest owned by a crook. The Arabs are horrible bastards etc. which may all be true. But pretending the statue of the fella outside our ground who we treat as ****ing Jesus reincarnated and his idiot brain dead son are whiter than white is bullshit. They may be a lesser evil but you don’t just show up as a billionaire overnight and randomly with a monopoly in one industry unless you’re doing one of the following things: 1, turning a blind eye to it; or 2, actively working to improve the image despite knowing the truth; 3, a bit of both and then some more.
What people are saying when they say “not for me” when it comes to the Americans, the Arabs or the Greeks is that the lesser evil (which is still a ****ing evil) is ok for them. Which it is for them but let’s have it right, stop pretending they’re decent fellows who just happened to “do it right” to make it ok and the moment someone else with a slightly more controversial HR record shows up “that will be it for me”. **** me, an American journalist goes missing in Thailand for criticising the regime - all good in the hood. Same happens in Saudi. That is horrible bloody Geordies, how can they live with themselves
Post not aimed at you obviously. This is the kind of mentality that gets us to Trump, they’re all as bad as each other so let’s elect someone who indulges my prejudices. Of course there is sharp practice in business but what you’re seeing with certain countries and their leadership is a whole different level. You have to draw the line somewhere, otherwise it’s just nihilism.
Anyway, what we can agree on is our ownership are rubbish and hopefully there is some truth in the rumour.

Either way we stuck with them, which looking at where we are, is much worse.
Unless the nepo dwarf actually puts money in the finances don’t add up let alone promote next year. Forget sportswashing, we’re staring down the barrel of administration.
Sorry, just can’t find this acceptable - our owners are largely inept but they’ve not done anything like this:

Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager
in Leicester City Forum
Posted
Interesting that national media are saying this is a coup/fantastic appointment for us, for example Jason Burt at the Telegraph, Alex Crook at Talksport, Nick Mashiter at BBC Sport - not had this amount of support in the press for a managerial decision since Rodgers as the jury was out on Maresca (except fanboy Balague of course).
Like many, was disappointed when I first heard the news but open-minded and want this naturally to succeed.
