davieG Posted 17 September 2005 Posted 17 September 2005 I remember a few years back when someone showed me how to compare two files/folders to see if they were the same. Can you do this in MS Word and if so HOW? I could really do with this as I seemed to have ended up with a lot of duplicated files, I'd compare by dates on the file list but every time you open one it resets it to the current date. HELP

HELP Word can do a side by side file comparison (taken from Word 2003 Help) Compare documents side by side Open the documents you want to compare side by side. On the Window menu, click Compare Side by Side with. On the Compare Side by Side toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, click Customize on the Tools menu, and then click the Toolbars tab.), do any of the following:If you want to scroll through the documents at the same time, click Synchronous Scrolling . If you want to reset the document windows to the positions they were in when you first started comparing documents, click Reset Window Position . [*]Click Close Side by Side to stop comparing documents. Alternatively you can download an application to compare files EG: FileSync 1.0 NOTE - I have no experience of this app - Just searched it on Download.com - and it's free
