st albans fox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Does anyone know the answer to the following ? we accept a bid for a player. Do we have to pay up the contract of the player from the fee received? If so, is the publicised fee without that portion? If not, does the buying club accept to pay up the contract as part of the agreed future salary package? Is there a difference if a player requests a transfer as opposed to the club accepting a bid first? I'm just trying to get my head around what sort of fee the club might look to accept for someone like Riyad, where we probably have a contractural commitment to pay him approx 9 mill more. If we have a replacement lined up for 10/15 mill with 12 mill of salary on top of that over three years, maybe a forty mill bid will be acceptable? we don't need the money but we are a successful business now as well as a football club. Looking at Southampton, they have managed to maintain their position having sold players who were happy to leave for fairly inflated fees and bringing in good replacements. our unexpected and fast tracked success has made the question of just how much the owners were prepared to throw at trying to make Europe a rhetorical one.
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Whilst we have a player under contract, the only way he can move to another club is if the 2 clubs agree a fee to transfer the player. The players contract is effectively terminated as part of the deal and he negotiates a new one with the new club. However there may be a loyalty payment due from the selling club as part of his contract, I believe the loyalty payment can be waived if the player requests a transfer. So to answer your question I think the fee is nothing to do with the players contract, it's just what the 2 businesses agree the player is worth.
Dodgy Bob Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 The player has to agree to terminate his contract and that termination will state that no further payment is due. Usually players will accept that because they're being offered a better contract at the new club. Sometimes they're on such a good deal at their existing club that they'll refuse to terminate, and then you end up with players on the books who you don't want but can't shift, like Paul Gallagher. I don't think a transfer request has any impact on the contract. It's just a formal way for a player to state that he wants to leave.
Vardinhio Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 we don't have to pay out contracts when selling a player. Even when we release a player part way through their contract it is normally s mutual value to enable both parties to benefit as we lose less cash and they get to leave to find a new club
