Yes before proper segregation. All in the same end with just a few police or stewards to separate home and away fans. Still similar on my first visit there in 1980 although not quite as bad. Can remember first game of season at Filbo in 72/73 I think when their fans invaded the pitch from the away corner, all dressed up in Clockwork Orange regalia. I imagine you are referring to a similar time and that was what the sharpened umbrellas were all about.
