Ugarte pines for Wrexham return

Recommended Posts

He may look poor in training or not put enough effort in in training. Or he may look out of his depth in this league. He scored a few in League 1 but that doesn't mean he can cut it at this level.

Yes, but surely he should be given more of a chance?

Ugarte makes Wrexham loan switch

Ugarte helped Wrexham win the LDV Vans Trophy last season

Juan Ugarte has made a surprise return to Wrexham just three months after leaving to join Crewe Alexandra.

The Spanish striker from the country's Basque region has joined the Dragons on a month's loan deal.

Ugarte, who scored 22 goals for Wrexham last season, asked Crewe boss Dario Gradi for a move after making just one start this season.

"If he was to go anywhere on loan he wanted to come to us," Wrexham boss Denis Smith told BBC Wales Sport.

Smith said Wrexham have been given special permission from the Football League to sign Ugarte as an "emergency loan".

Under the rules governing clubs in administration, Wrexham can only have 20 players on their books.

But with seven senior players out injured, Smith successfully argued he desperately needed an extra pair of legs.

Smith added: "I'm pleased to welcome him back. It's for a month at the moment but hopefully it'll be longer.

"Hopefully in the next couple of games he can knock one or two goals in which will give us a good result.

"We're then got a home game and hopefully we'll put a few more hundred on the gate and that will be great for us.

"We want to progress out of this league this season and hopefully Juan will help us to do that."

Ugarte has failed to score for Crewe this season, but manager Gradi says he has not yet given up hope on the striker becoming a success at Gresty Road.

"I would only really look to bring him back here if I was going to play him in the first team," Gradi told the Crewe website.

"Hopefully, he can go out on loan, score some goals and show that he has the ability to come back and make an impact in the Championship."
