Pressure on Young Players

Sorry if this topic has been covered before. I have been watching the series about the Crystal Palace Academy. Very interesting. What struck me is the intense pressure players as young as nine are under. Has it always been like this? Wonder what others think

Think it's got more and more pressurising. The competition is ridiculous. 

 

I am enjoying the programme though. Quite an eye-opener.

Feel really sorry for the children. 8 year old kids walking onto the pitch feeling nervous & scared. Being scrutinised at 10 years old about the height & weight and whether they are to small to make it.
