Scow Posted 10 October 2004 Posted 10 October 2004 So you've been speaking to Real Madrid fans then? Or have you been relying on the media to form that lazy judgement? Zidance was more effective than Beckham throughout last season in general, but that's my opinion - Beckham's form did degenerate from the second half of the season onwards. Helguera might be an average player, but he still did more than Beckham. As for Ronaldo, yes, the goals did dry up, but he was still a threat, even though he didn't receive the right service.
TrickyTrev Posted 10 October 2004 Posted 10 October 2004 Helguera effective? I presume you think the job of a defender is to stop the opposition scoring, he clearly wasn't very effective in this. I don't actually undertsand how you think he has played well over th epast season or so? If you think Zidane played better than Beckham lastr season that is fine, but I thought Zidane created very little in most matches and offers nothing defensively. I made it clear that it is not me making a judgement for the real madrid fans, I am only commenting that Beckham was the eonly player NOT booed by the fans at a recent training session. obviously I am reallying on the media for that because believe it or not I don't attend Real's training sessions, but I see no reason why this would be mis reported. <_<
Scow Posted 10 October 2004 Posted 10 October 2004 You may have noticed that Helguera was also used as a defensive midfielder in the absence of Makelele - And he did a fine job, like he has done in previous seasons in that position. He is actually a midfielder, not a defender, although Real use him there. Don't blame him for the amount of goals that Real concede, when you have players like Figo and Zidane that don't track back, and rampaging full backs like Salgado and Carlos who bomb forward, then it's no surprise that Real let in so many.
