Chairman of the Bored Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 Anyone going to a Comedy Festival gig? Derby trying to play footy on Tuesday could be a good one. I went to see Roseann Barr at DMH last might. Utter rubbish. Embarrassingly bad, I'd say. Didn't laugh once all night - Fighting Talk on 5 Live earlier that day was much funnier. £25 a ticket as well, must've been mad.
Guest Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Her 'sitcom' is enough to put me off her for life. Totally unfunny, let's watch some fat woman do a lot of shouting. Unfortunately, my mum and sister loved it.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 13 February 2006 Author Posted 13 February 2006 I've been slagging it off on the Comedy festival website for 2 days. Said I hear funnier stuff at The Walkers. It's true! Don't know why I went. Every now and again it's good to get a reaility check on the good things in life...
Guest Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Roseanne never was, and never will be funny. If you want disappointing comedy, look no further than Hattie Hayridge. She was on at Jongleurs a few years back, and I was well pleased as I am a huge Red Dwarf fan. I've never been so disappointed in my life, well in my life outside of City!
Rincewind Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 I went to the Ale Wagon tonight (pre-midnight) Seven acts for £7. Very good night. There were a couple that were not so good but overall they were good. The line-up changes every night and as it is a smallish room booking may be best if anyone goes there towards the weekend. Two acts stood out for me. Sagritta (Asian I think) She was very natual and relaxed during her performance, and a duo that were partly musical that were mad putting new words to songs. One was tall and bald and the other was short and less thin. These acts are part of the Leicester comedy workshop and more than one of them have been nominated for awards. Sagrita I believe is a finalist in a competitiob the BBC are running. In some ways I would much rather see these up and coming acts in small venues than pay a lot for well known artists in big venues. I heard that the Ale Wagon may make a Comedy Night a regular thing if this is a success.
