EINDHOVEN, March 4 (Eredivisie) - PSV Eindhoven's defence of the Eredivisie title looks more and more like ending in success after a convincing win against Heerenveen.

Arouna Kone opened the scoring for the home side eight minutes before the interval and Phillip Cocu added another in the final minute of the half.

Mark De Vries pulled one back just after the hour for Heerenveen but goals from Alex and a second from Kone sealed a comfortable victory for Guus Hiddink's side who face Lyon in the Champions League next week.

With seven games to play they stretch their lead to 10 points over Feyenoord who have a game in hand.

Nonetheless, it would now take a major collapse to deny Hiddink what looks to be a fitting farewell, with reports suggesting he will take control of the Russian national side after the World Cup, in which he will be in charge of Australia.

Heerenveen started well and after nine minutes Arnold Bruggink forced a save from Heurelho Gomes.

At the other end, Cocu fired over from the edge of the box and then Heerenveen goalkeeper Brian Vandenbussche saved well from Kone following a cross from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

After 37 minutes, Kone opened the scoring with a close-range header from a free-kick by Jason Culina on the right.

Cocu made it 2-0 when he collected a ball from Vennegoor of Hesselink, netting from 14 yards with a powerful shot.

Heerenveen tried to hit back after the break but Lasse Nilsson missed to the left after a pass from Paul Bosvelt.

Four minutes later they pulled one back when De Vries headed home from four yards after a cross from Ugur Yildirim.

Alex settled any lingering PSV nerves with a powerful free-kick a quarter of an hour from time.

Kone added some gloss with his second goal six minutes from time, latching onto a miscued clearance from Michel Breuer to beat Vandenbussche from 12 yards.

Well at least he scored. Against PSV too... hopefully that'll convince them to take him off our hands permanently in the summer

Precisely.
