Collymore: City boss should be young, good and English

Stan Collymore believes Leicester City must appoint a fresh-faced manager if they are to bounce back to the Premiership.

The former Filbert Street striker reckons that City should side with youth, not simply experience.

He said: "There is a fine line between success and failure. The board must appoint someone who can provide them with a solid platform.

"I would like to see a good, young English manager with a good reputation given the job. But he must have three or four years of lower league experience behind him.

"If the club are to get back up to the Premiership quickly then they need a manager with fresh ideas who can steady the ship as well as making that step-up.

"It is no good getting someone in who has been around the block 10 times. That would be a backwards step in my opinion."

The former Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Aston Villa player - who is in Leicester on Wednesday to help promote his book 'Stan: Tackling My Demons' - was saddened to see former boss Micky Adams resign earlier this month.

But the ex-England international also thinks Adams was right to quit after two-and-a-half years at the helm.

"After La Manga, administration and all, I think Micky had begun to not enjoy the job.

"I can relate to what he has been through with everything that has happened to me over the years, but Micky Adams will be back because he has been held in high regard wherever he has been and is a strong character."

Collymore, who spent a controversial eight months at Filbert Street in 2000, has now retired from football and has hopes of pursuing an acting career.

"I am promoting my book for the next three weeks and then I am jetting off to LA to work with an acting coach. A lot of things that I wrote made me feel uncomfortable but I am glad that I have done it."

He added: "Football has been part of my life since the age of six and I love the game, but I don't like what is happening in and around it at the moment.

"I want to try something new for now but I hope that I will be involved in the game in some capacity in the future."

I have to say that i agree. It would be good if we could get him out of retirement and he plays for us this season. He's better then dublin, Blake, Wright, Benji all put together.

I'm going to get that book I think, might be some interesting stuff about his time at Leicester.

Stan is only stating the obvious. Most of us want an up and coming young British manager with a proven record. Not some dinoursaur like Wilko and Bassett.
