well, that was spectacularly shit.

giants had bucket loads of chances to win that, wasted them, made some shocking errors and then submitted to a cruel-to-watch home run....

and it's, 7.30 am and light outside....and 2 and a half hours to the city game.

awful.

Yeah, I wasn't particularly thrilled with that result, either; I'd much prefer San Fran to win than the Braves. As you said, there was no way the Giants should have lost that game. Worst of all, that fook Kyle Farnsworth came in after Billy Wagner's freak injury, got out of a bases-loaded jam and was credited with the win (Yankees fans don't care for him much because he wasn't so great coming out of the bullpen when he was with them a few seasons ago despite big expectations and an important role on the team).

Rick Ankiel, the Giants' CF that hit the game-winning HR last night/this morning, has had a particularly interesting career. Back in 2000, he was rookie pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and had a good first full season with the team. Ankiel was given the ball in Game 1 against the Braves and started off fine enough... until he had a ridiculous mid-game meltdown. I just checked his line in that game, and he threw five wild pitches and walked four batters in the third inning alone. From that point on, for whatever reason, Ankiel lost all of his control and simply became unable to throw strikes ("Steve Blass Disease"). After a couple of awful starts in 2001, Ankiel spent a few years in the minor leagues trying everything to fix his problems, but to no avail. He actually made it back to the Cards for a few games in '04 but wasn't impressive, and he decided to go back to the minor leagues and reinvent himself as an outfielder, and I suppose that idea worked, because he made it back to the majors as an oft-injured CF.

Edit to add that Lincecum was fvcking awesome in Game 1.

jordan, cheers for fuelling my new baseball obsession :)

so many interesting stories.

i'm worried about the giants now, the braves seem very good at home and will be super confident after stealing the most unlikely of victories on the road. When the giants blew that bases loaded situation in the tenth, i just sat there and thought 'game over'. i just knew that the braves were going to win.

lincecum was awesome in the first game and, to be fair, Cain did a decent job - it was poor batting in RISP situations and some uncharacteristic errors that caused the trouble, not to mention an untidy innings from the excellently named Brian Wilson. I'm no expert, but he giants don't look like they have the batters to win a world series - torres, uribe and sandoval have been pretty average. we could do with a lance berkman type of hitter :D

Mind you, all the other series look hopelessly onesided, so i guess it was a good result for neutrals.

urgh, once again the giants are totally dominant, sanchez barely gives away a hit - but 0/5 with RISP & the bull pen come in and we give away stupid late runs...

knew i should have gone with the yankees

Step away from the ledge--Sanchez battled back after he was down to the team's last strike, and Huff just singled in the tying run. And once again, Buster Posey finds himself in a big spot...

knew i should have gone with the yankees

Tsk, tsk...

edit: Conrad, either you're fvcking kidding or you're on some gambler's payroll! Posey hit a routine fielders' choice or groundout to second but this clown just made his 3rd error of the game, and the Giants retake the lead! Wilson can't blow it again, right?...

awesome...

braves at home and coming from behind, and the giants inability to convert RISP, i can't believe we turned that around - but i'm pleased for sanchez, easily the MVP tonight...

same again tomorrow please :D

I might be able to catch the last few innings of Game Four in that series tonight. And after it looked very much like a Rangers sweep was on the cards, suddenly, the deciding Game 5 of Rays-Rangers is set for tomorrow night. This is great news for the Yankees, who are now guaranteed to avoid facing respective #1 starters David Price of the Rays or Cliff Lee of the Rangers in Friday's Game 1 of the best-of-seven AL Championship Series (and possibly Game 2 the next night as well, unless the winning team decides to use its ace on only three days of rest between starts).

because i only started watching towards the end of the season, i think i ended up seeing games from two rays/yankees series, so i'm cheering for the rangers, for variety, but i think the yankess willl cruise either way.

the good news for the giants is that :giggle: madison bumgardner is pitching tonight, whereas the braves have gone with lowe, so they won't have him in the fifth game, should it go that far, the giants will have lincecum... :chant:

Classic Yankees October comeback win in Game 1 last night.

ALCS Game 2 this afternoon before Lincecum vs. Halladay in the NLCS Game 1 later (With those pitchers, that game might finish in 2 hours lol)

Why do i support a team in every sport that pretty much causes me heart ache year after year?

Please turn things around Los Mets. I really want that World Series tattoo still.
