Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Just wondering who everyone thinks Jose Mourinho would play and where if he was in charge of England, because I doubt he would be happy without anyone in the Makelele role. Obviously there's no-one in that class. Would he play Rooney wide right? Where would Beckham fit in? Is Owen strong enough to play the lone striker role? Or is he left out completely? Discuss.
Ric Flair Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Are we talking from the crop of players in this squad or can we include other English players that have been left out of the squad? It's also hard to determine what formation he would use aswell because if I remember rightly, he's changed it at Chelsea now and will be playing with 2 out and out strikers for next season. But if we were to base it on his classic Chelsea formation with the players in the current squad then i'd think it would be: Robinson Carragher Terry Ferdinand A Cole Beckham Lampard Gerrard/Carrick Rooney Owen J Cole/Gerrard

Yeah the conditions you set were what I was after, I'm not sure he'll revert to 4-4-2 for the whole of next season, he has to fit in Lampard, Essien and Ballack in midfield after all. I don't know. He's going to have a hell of a job on his hands rotating them (not to mention the strikers plus Shevchenko and Kalou). I have a feeling he would play Carrick as well, with Lampard and Gerrard ahead of him, Joe Cole wide left and Rooney wide right. Beckham doesn't fit the same mould as Wright-Phillips/Duff/Robben in terms of beating his man with pace. Obviously it's all pointless conjecture but an interesting question I think.

I think he'd convert Beckham in to a holding midfielder, just spreading the play and taking all set pieces, etc.
