discojoe Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 maybe its time we went looking in the lower leagues for a defensive midfielders cus if u think about it if a players steps up a league they are gonna want to prove themselves therfore trying harder and giving 100% i do keep saying but what about this tommy doherty?
Scow Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 A bit like Junior Lewis I don't think anyone could be as bad as Junior Lewis......Or could they? Just remembered Lee Marshall.
Guest Daniel Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 This is what MON did with the club, he signed lots of players from lower divisions and made them stars basically. This shows how good the manager is, and blatently Micky Mouse aint good enough to do this, he signs old shit, with the odd signing paying off.

Highly rated Lennon for £750k, Elliott for a club record £1.5m or Savage for £500k? Chelsea regular Frank Sinclair for £2m? England international Flowers for £1.1m? Bolton player and highly rated Taggart? Cottee for £500k? And what about O'Neil's other ingenious signings that get talked about all the time - Laursen for £400k, Kalac for £760k, Fenton for £1.1m, Impey for £1.6m, Gunnlaugsson for £2m? Do you understand? He didn't pick up players from nowhere for free and make them into world class player as most people seem to think for some reason. Lennon & Elliott were wanted by quite a few clubs when we bought them, and it's not like we didn't pay anything for them. He paid more money on Impey than Adams has spent in his whole 3 years at Leicester. Comparing their signings to see who's a better manager is stupid. In fact, if you're going to talk about that kind of stuff, how about Adams/Basset getting the likes of Thatcher and Dickov from nowhere and turning them into class players? Adams may have bought crap in like Hignett, Brooker, Howey but at least he didn't spend any money on them.
Vestan Pance Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 Sorry to be a pedant but Laursen & Kalac weren't MON's, agree with the others though.
Jonno Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 Laursen wasn't till like 2002 was he, don't know why I put him. I could have sworn Kalac came in around december time 95? must have only just been after MON came then. You got me
Guest Daniel Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 Yeah, so much for the smart answer. Nah, your right i suppose mate, ill give you that! Whys everyone hate Laursen? I thought he was ok?!

Scow Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 Yeah, so much for the smart answer. Nah, your right i suppose mate, ill give you that! Whys everyone hate Laursen? I thought he was ok?! Laursen was a moaning twat, saying how Leicester was the worst experience of his life. He was far too slow, too laboured, and basically shit. And his free kicks were pretty awful too.
Guest Daniel Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 I agree for th things he said when he left he was a **** and i hate him, but to be honest i thought he was a fairly sound player, won basically every header that came near him.

It was alright winning virtually every header, but he was exposed far too often for pace.
Guest Daniel Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 Yeah i spose so, you know more than ill ever know about football scowy so i wont argue.

TrickyTrev Posted 23 July 2004 Posted 23 July 2004 Laursen was laughab ly bad. I could not believe how slow he was. His free kicks and passing was the other thing. He fancied himself as a continental style Nesta type on the ball, in reaility he was Matt Heath butr a foot shorter. I agree with points about O'Neill being given money to spend, although that is not always a recipe for sucess see Peter Taylor.
