Thracian Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 I see Chelsea got another helping hand from the referee today. At first I thought the ref was brilliant, blowing for a penalty against a manhandling defender just as so many should have been penalsied in recent months and especially at the World Cup. But then Carvalho almost pulls the shirt off a Blackburn guys back and, conveniently, the refs not in a position to see. If ever there was a case for video evidence that was it. And the game would almost certainly have ended a draw because there's no way Blackburn would have been caught short of defenders at 1-1.
lcfc_jme Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 As I highlighted yesterday, referees feel obliged to give teams like Chelsea and United (the so-called " Big Teams " ) penaltys for minor offences, yet let the same sort of incident pass them by if it happens to a lesser team.
lildave3 Posted 28 August 2006 Posted 28 August 2006 The peno was a peno, and yes, Roberts should of had one. But if the ref can't see because defenders block his view, it's down to his assistants to inform him of the infringement so the assistant should be to blame and not clattenburg, who imo is one of the best refs in the prem. Plus, i think Chelsea were just too strong for blackburn today and would of won anyway.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 28 August 2006 Posted 28 August 2006 I was just about to bitch about the same thing, glad I'm not the only one who's getting sick of refs' gift-giving. I think penalties should be given the arse for normal matches. If that same 'obstruction' was anywhere else in the field it would be a free kick, and so should it be in the box. I'm sick of teams winning not on skill but sometimes on the mood of the ref at the time.
