Katy Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 I have an American keyboard on my laptop (with an 'English' hard drive) I have searched high and low for the 'hash' key but its no where to be found. It has the hash above the 3 key but it comes out as '£' when pressed with the shift key. It must be there somewhere but I can find it. Any ideas where I should be looking Large amounts of thanks
lcfc_jme Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 If that's the case, wouldn't it just mean your keyboard is operating in an English way, and so the hash key would be in the same place as on a normal keyboard (next to the return key)??

Katy Posted 2 October 2006 Author Posted 2 October 2006 Hash might be on the '0' key. 0 is ) on here. Where's Cisono when you need her, she'd know fo sho
lookwhaticando Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 You could always add a new 'language' to the system and an associated keyboard layout. If you added a new language, and set the keyboard as "United States" then the keys you hit on your keyboard should be the keys Windows is expecting. If I understand you correctly, your computer is working on the theory you're using a British keyboard layout, whereas your keyboard is really American - so just telling Windows you've an American keyboard should do the trick. Unfortunately, there's no Quid/Euro symbols on the US keyboard, so you'd have to remember the ALT-codes for them (ALT+0163 and 0128 if I'm not mistake)
lcfc_jme Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 just play about with it then. Press every button with and without the shift key and you're sure to find it. It won't take that long either
