Myself. Enjoy it. :)

Arrived at Goals for 3.30 and registered the team ready for the 4 o'clock draw. We went outside for a kick about and warmed up ready for the tournament.

I was surprised by the amount of people at the place, yet there was only 25 teams there, when we were told about 35 would be. Alot of families, friends and girlfriends were there, wrapped up for the cold day out. It was a lovely day to play football, not so nice for standing about watching, was abit of a freeze and people were slipping over just while warming up. The day was going to be exciting and 4 o'clock was getting close.

The team made there way into the bar, ready for the draw as a loud mouthed staff member strolled through the bar trying to out speak the players and the football that was on the widescreen TV. Eventually he had everyone's attention and got through to everyone that if you hadn't register now was your last chance 'Stunning' I thought, we've register, back to the football. 5 minutes past by and the man was back, this time behind the bar, we knew this was it.

''There will be 4, YES 4 groups of 6 teams'' he bellowed from behind the bar, everyone looking at each other in excitement, people had realised they were going to get 5 matches for there money!

The teams were drawn out one by one and as it got to group 3, we had the feeling we were in this group.

''Young Guns FC'' he shouted ''and that will make up group 3''

None of us had heard the other teams drawn against us and as the man finished off the draw another team came strolling in. There would now have to be a change of plan, and the bloke explained there would now be 5 groups of 5 and we should meet on pitch one for some rules to be explained.

As the 200 odd people squeezed through the double doors, kids crying, women moaning and men farting and burping the cold freeze blew in the door and made everyone think to themselves 'I must be mad'. The teams flooded onto pitch one and yet again the fog horn bloke came strolling over to shout the rules at everyone.

'NO HEAD HEIGHT' NO KEEPERS OUT THE AREA, NO PLAYERS IN, ANY FOULS THEN SIN BIN IT IS, ENJOY!' the speak was over and he told everyone to trek back inside to get the fixture sheets that the mad receptionist was typing up as fast as one of Santa's elf's making this years toys. Instead of sending the team captain inside to get the sheet, every team had to take the squad in, some people don't think but shit happens and I went in to pick up the fixture list.

We had 4 matches that lasted 10 minutes each, with 10 minute gaps in between.

The first match we were up against FC Braunstone, the game started very fast and after 2 minutes the Young Guns were 2-0 up, after Dan & Flude had finished cooley. We carried on piling on the pressure and we kept up a good tempo. After 5 minutes Dan & Flude were replaced by Sparky & Joe, who hadn't played here before, but they started off well and gave everything they had, with about 3 minutes left on the clock, we conceded a great goal taken beautifully but the FC Braunstone striker who left Oli with no chance. The game carried on at the great speed and the win was there for the taking but a lovely ball split the defence and they were 2 on 1 with us, when Pele tried to shoulder barge there last man, who went down softly. Pele was sent off and we were down to 4 players with 40 seconds remaining, it took them a whole 10 seconds to take advantage of the extra man and the game finished 2-2, we were very unlucky and Pele was very unlucky.

It wasn't the end of the world and we had 3 more games to play before we were off home or even through to the next round. The 10 minutes went fast and before we knew it we were back on the pitch, ready to kick off against The Unpredictable.

This game started off even faster than the last game and we found ourselves 3 goals up in as man minutes, 2 rockets from Flude in the bottom right corner and a nicely placed goal from Dan. The game looked very one sided at that time and we thought we were going to cruise. The scored remained the same until about the 5th minute when we made a substitution and un settled the good defence. They hit back with a goal that was nicely taken, the ball was then knocked down the line, Dan collected it, took on a defender and whacked the ball against the wall for a lovely pass to Flude that presented him with an open goal to make the score 4-1. Surely that was game set and match? Nope, they didn't give up and hit back with another 2 goals and putting us under great pressure, with the score 4-3 and going into the last 30 seconds we were rocking, but the ball broke free and Pele placed it brilliantly into the bottom right corner, game set and match. 5-3.

The third match was against Westcoates, a team we hadn't of heard or know anything about. After the first two games and the quick starts, we decided to start Flude & Dan as subs as its only fair for everyone, but this turned out to be a bad decision as we got some of our own medicine and we very quickly found ourselves behind. Not just one goal behind but 4 within about 5 minutes, with a goal, nicely taken from Joe between there shower of goals. Dan & Flude then replaced Joe & Sparky and basically tried to keep things tight and not let this hit a cricket score. Dan was fouled badly outside there area but the referee claimed to see nothing and they went on to score. Not a good result for the team, and the first loss of the day. 5-1.

The last match was going to be interesting, we were up against LE2 Crew, who are top of Monday Division 1, one of the best teams in the county at this kind of football wasn't going to be easy, we knew we had to win to have any kind of chance, and yes we did do the best we could. The game started alot slower than other games and we were getting stuck in as well as we could. A half decent shot from the half way line flew into the area towards Oli who made his first mistake of the night and a cruel goal against the Young Guns who were playing excellent. This was a Yeading Vs Newcastle tie and we were doing very well, the game remained at 1-0 for along time, until about the 8th minute to be precise when a no nonsense power shot from there defender flew post and in, Oli had no chance and this was a cruel blow but at the same time a lovely goal. The Young Guns were laying down though and just as the spectators were packing there bags and looking forward to a McDonalds on the way home a lovely passing move put Sparky through and he finished it well, under the keeper who was well build tank. With the referee telling us we had 30 seconds left before we were going home, we created another excellent chance but a fine shot was saved equally as well and the game finished at 2-1, a creditable result.

Overall the day was very good and the whole team enjoyed it.

Tom Flude was very good on the day and 4 goals in as many games showed how important he was going to be in the promotion challenge.

Daniel Young overall had a good tournament, with 2 goals and 4 assists created a good partnership with Flude.

Pele Orton was a rock at the back, without his usual defensive partner along side him he had to adjust his game a little and did it brilliantly, a nice goal aswel.

Mel Orton, back from a long break played well and stopped alot of fast, big players from scoring, did well considering his height.

Sparky, his first appearance for the Young Guns and did very well, a good work rate and a lovely taken goal at the end.

Joe, also a debutee and did well, scored a lovely goal in the third game and worked well with Sparky.

Oli Young, some fine saves from our very own 'Simon Royce' did well and without him we would of been going home red faced.

Thanks to GOALS FOOTBALL for organising this tournament and a very enjoyable day out, and a massive thanks to all of the parents and friends that came along to watch aswel. Much appreciated and without you all we wouldn't be the team we are.
