davieG Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 At the risk of alienating myself I have to say on recent performances I much prefer Gemmill to Gudjonsson, who I believe is an appalling (note spelling) player. He can't pass, he can't tackle, he can't shoot and he slows the game down. I also think Gemmill is not a holding midfielder, more of a third CM linking play alongside an attacking and holding midfielder as in 3-5-2. I know he's apt to pass sideways a lot but there's really no point in him shooting from the edge of the box if that is not his strong point, same as Joey awful shot on him. Gemmils first touch and passing are generally much better than Joey and for that matter Nalis. PS I did win the Most Football Knowledgeable 2004 award, if you would like to take it back feel free.
Scow Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Gemmill would be better in a midfield 3 where he has more cover and support, but I don't think he offers us anything apart from a bit of ball retention. He is far too slow and gets bypassed in midfield too easily. He is definitely a better passer than Joey, but most of it's sideways. We need to be more creative and imaginative in midfield, and Gemmill shouldn't even be considered. We need energy, pace and ideas - Step forward Williams and Dawson.
PompeyFox Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Watch Gemil, when he gets the ball, he takes too long to decide what to do with it. By the time he's made his mind up he's been tackled and lost possesion. Get rid when his 3 month contract is up. If you ask him what his position is, it is a defensive midfielder.

I'guess I'm really saying I think Joey is :w00t: and I would prefer Gemmill

By the time he's made his mind up he's been tackled and lost possesion or passed it to the oppo. So it's a great shame that he's on a 3 YEAR contract :w00t:
Scow Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Joey has been a bit cack really. I thought he played well at Forest, but reverted to old ways yesterday. I can't believe he was at Real Betis.
