Gala Foxes Posted 30 December 2004 Posted 30 December 2004 Rumours in the press up here not surprisingly surround Levein raiding Hearts for a couple of players - main names are Alan Maybury (Ex Leeds Full Back - Eire International) and Mark De Vries (Centre Forward) Would happily take Maybury who is tenacious, hard tackling and not without skill but would pass up on De Vries - he has a good goal scoring record but plays 4 games then misss the next 5 through injury.

Jordan Posted 30 December 2004 Posted 30 December 2004 I'm fairly sure I read a few news articles that said de Vries wasn't moving until the end of the season. Even though Hearts will most likely lose him when his contract runs out, and they could use the money despite having a new owner, I don't think it would be worth it for Hearts to get rid of him for a paltry sum when they could use him in their (uphill) battle to finish in the top 3

davieG Posted 31 December 2004 Posted 31 December 2004 Seems like Maybury prefers to stay at Hearts, who can blame him, not me. Maybury plea for new deal Alan eyes fresh contract as Levein's Leicester prepare New Year swoop GRAEME CROSER ALAN MAYBURY today issued a contract plea to Hearts as former boss Craig Levein prepares a New Year bid to take the defender to Leicester City. With the transfer window about to swing open, Levein is set to make his move for the Republic of Ireland internationalist after Sunday’s Edinburgh derby at Easter Road. Maybury is one of 14 first-team Jambos out of contract at the end of the season but, without concrete budget details from prospective club owner Vladimir Romanov, boss John Robertson has been unable to cement new deals with any of them. Leicester are ready to offer the former Leeds full-back a return to England but the 26-year-old insists he remains eager to listen to any proposal Hearts could yet put in front of him. He said: "I think all the lads who are out of contract have come out and said that if the club can sort out a deal then there’s no reason to leave. "But there is this ongoing uncertainty hanging over the club and the transfer window is very close. "There’s been a lot of rumour and Leicester have been mentioned with regard to myself. "I don’t know if anything will happen on that front and a lot will obviously depend on the manager’s requirements down there. "From my own point of view, coming to Hearts has been a great move and of course I’d be happy to talk to the club. I went from playing reserve football at Leeds to the first team here and I’m now also a regular in the national squad. "I don’t think I would have developed at anywhere near the same rate if I hadn’t come here so it’s been great. "I really enjoy the club and the city - when you move there’s an element of apprehension but I really settled in Edinburgh." Maybury admits the ongoing financial uncertainty at Tynecastle has had an effect on the dressing-room. Off-field controversy has been constant during his spell with the club and while he insists the players have, by and large, been able to block it out he admits thoughts of the current saga have been more invasive. He continued: "As players we try to do our best but it can be difficult. All the off-field stuff is an influence we could do without. We all read the papers and there’s barely a day goes by where it’s not mentioned. "There’s been the questions over the takeover. We’ve been wondering when that’s going to happen. "The new manager has come in but it’s been hard for him to stamp his authority on the team with so much uncertainty around the club." Robertson confirmed that there would be no players leaving before the derby but would not comment on what might unfold thereafter. He said: "I can guarantee no-one will leave before the derby. The transfer window does not open until the first of January and I won’t concern myself with it until then. "I think the players have been focusing on the job in hand but there is uncertainty - there’s no getting away from that."
