cisono Posted 13 February 2007 Posted 13 February 2007 I had a lucky escape today... This morning, I decided to have a break from my computer (and FT) to go upstairs and do some tidying up... (this is very unusual, mind you...) All of a sudden, I heard a loud noise, as if something rather heavy had collapsed. I ran downstairs to find that the filing shelves (a corner unit) that sit on my desk next to my PC had fallen over onto my chair (where I would have been sitting, had I been at my PC) Although the contents of these 24 odd files had been spilled all over the room (and onto another PC which is luckily still working), I was rather happy that this had happened while I was not there! Not sure I'd have been able to jump out of range quickly enough if I'd been sitting at my PC. Has anone had any lucky escapes recently?
lookwhaticando Posted 13 February 2007 Posted 13 February 2007 FT doesn't kill people. Dodgy shelving does. My dad and I had something of a lucky escape when changing the tires on the car... we had it up on the jack but the car wobbled a little and the jack slipped under the car - resulting in the front of the car crashing to the ground (the wheel was off, so the brake and body hit the ground). We were actually getting ready to put the other wheel on at the time, so we were in close proximity to the vehicle as it tumbled. Luckily I saw the wobble and knew the car was coming down so we managed to get away. If I hadn't been watching at the time, one of us might have had a hand/arm in the way.
dandannieldanok Posted 13 February 2007 Posted 13 February 2007 Has anone had any lucky escapes recently? Similarly to what happened you, my dartboard fell on my computer chair, if that had hit me on the head it would have effin' hurt.
Geo V Posted 14 February 2007 Posted 14 February 2007 A couple of weeks ago I was walking home from the tube station and I spotted a tennis ball on the grass. I decided that I was actually 7 again and decided to start kicking the ball home. I did my impression of Geoff Horsfield and the tennis ball veered left so I went toward the bush to dig it out to continue my juvenile act. As I found the ball, I heard a thud about 10 yards ahead of me. Had I continued on the pavement walking home, I would have been smacked on the head by a huge branch that had just fallen from the tree (it was a bllomin crazily windy day). To be fair the bang would have done me good but still i`ll count that as a lucky escape.
lookwhaticando Posted 14 February 2007 Posted 14 February 2007 I'm sure I've been saved by my own juvenile acts before, similar to you apex. Difference is... it's not balls, it's puddles and ice.
MC Prussian Posted 14 February 2007 Posted 14 February 2007 Have you already changed the position of your PC and stuff, cisono? Just in case...
lookwhaticando Posted 14 February 2007 Posted 14 February 2007 Have you already changed the position of your PC and stuff, cisono? Just in case... As the commentators often say... Lightening doesn't strike twice. So, nothing to worry about cisono... continue to sit under the dodgy shelving at your own discretion.

cisono Posted 14 February 2007 Author Posted 14 February 2007 Have you already changed the position of your PC and stuff, cisono? Just in case... Yes, I have avoided placing the corner bit of the shelf tower onto the window sill (which is a few millimetres higher than the desk) - it used to look just slightly like the tower of Pisa (but obviously worse as the tower of Pisa is still there...). This new measure should prevent any unwelcome repeats...
