PC help...can't play avi files...

Recommended Posts

Weird, for some reason I cannot play .avi files with windows media player, realplayer etc.

I have all the codecs and can only get the video working in DIVX player.

These exact files were fine a few days ago......

Have you tried doing a system restore back to the day they were working?

yup, also repaired windows.

Programs that come with their own codecs work fine, just the ones where you need to download codecs don't work. I've tried reinstalling and a program verified that they were installed.

I play my .avi files through VLC media player, have you tried that?

Yeah VLC player is great but it isn't not being able to watch them, its the fact that I can't use other programs which can edit videos, convert, compress them etc.

YOU ARE FANTASTIC :D

I installed it and opened up media player 11, and the video file opened no problem!!! The ffdshow icon appeared in the toolbar and I have seen that before, so somehow I must have got rid of this... but now its back

THANKS SO MUCH!
