MADLEVEIN Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 from the sun, "SETH JOHNSON aims to prove to Leeds he is not a waste a money." The England midfielder, 25, cost £7million from Derby in 2001 and earns £38,000-a-week. He admitted: “I came here when crazy wages were offered. “A lot of players were getting paid more than they were worth  and it was the same with me. “I was sure I could justify my pay but I haven’t had that chance.†Johnson has been sidelined for 10 months with a knee injury. He said: “All I need is a decent run in the side.†sounds familiar
Guest Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 To be honest, if I was offered a ridiculous amount of money to do my job, I'd take it. I blame the managers who deemed the player to be worth these salaries, and the boards who sanctioned them, as much as the players and agents who pushed for them in the first place.
Scow Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 £38k for Seth Johnson is laughable. He's not even an average Premiership player...

I bloody would, dunno how Seth Johnson can sleep at night, he should've taken a wage cut a long time ago!
Anish Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 Good point Cat burger, but most people don't have that sort of conscience. Yes he should feel bad that he earns more in one week than most people do in a year and he has done nothing to justify his wages - but if the club were stupid enough to give him those wages for such a long time it's hardly his fault. The management of Leeds United are far more responsible than he should be.
BartonFox Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 I detest these overpaid good for nothings as much as the next guy, but please don't pretend you would turn round and attempt to take a pay cut. I choose to pay my ST money or ticket money and I know where it goes to. If you feel that strongly don't go but don't criticise the guy for the actions of others. He is shite though
TrickyTrev Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 Interesting story about Seth Johnson and it really highlights the stupidity football had got itself into in terms of finances. When he signed for Leeds he asked his agent to Start negotiations at 25k and to settle for 15k a week. Petersidales first offer was 30k and he managed to negoiate it up tp 35k. (those figures may be slightly innacurate it is drawn from memory). Seth Johnson is obviously a waste of money and overpaid, but it is the ex-chairmans fault not his.
Guest Posted 4 February 2005 Posted 4 February 2005 To answer your question CB, if I was earning £38k a year and didn't deserve it, I would feel more guilty, and worry that I'd be found out than if I was earning £38k a week. Strange, but true.
