TornadoShaunUK Posted 19 February 2005 Posted 19 February 2005 I'm a big fan of Ian Walker. I'd say he has been one of my favourite players of recent times. He's a fairly consistent goalkeeper and probably the best in our league. If we were in the Premiership I'd wager he'd be one of the better ones up there aswell. He obviously wants to stay and is prepared to take another pay cut and surely the fact that he wants to stay here still even though it's looking like another season in the Championship for us shows he is a player who has some loyalty to his club. I know he's getting on a bit but I think it'd be a bit silly of us not to offer the lad atleast another year on his current deal. So anyway - simply put, would you like to see Ian Walker given a new contract??
spirefox Posted 19 February 2005 Posted 19 February 2005 I would like him to stay but can't see how he will take the sort of pay cut he would need to for us to keep him.
Wellman Posted 19 February 2005 Posted 19 February 2005 After his performance today and world class save. KEEP HIM! ENGLAND'S NUMBER 1, ENGLAND'S ENGLAND'S NUMBER 1!
Anish Posted 19 February 2005 Posted 19 February 2005 Keep him as long as he agrees to a massive pay cut - so that he is paid in line with other players in the team/division.
step Posted 19 February 2005 Posted 19 February 2005 We will see how loyal he is when it comes to the new pay deal. My only complaint about walker is that he never throws the ball out, so we dont built or attacks from the back and he dont come of his line enough. Though he did today and was brilliant. He should stay
Jonbluefox9 Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 I saw moments of brilliance from Ian yesterday like his save from Bryan Hughes but some were saying he should've come out for their goal. Having watched the replay I think Dabizas should've got infront of Bartlett and put it out for a corner. He does try to throw the ball out and there was one great example in the first half when he threw a perfect, low zipping ball out to Tiatto and we counter attacked well as a result. He also looks to the full backs like Jordan and Alan but they're either not in a position to recieve the ball as they've come inside for a corner or they're still up field after an attack. You'll notice that he's always looking for a throw to begin with but usually has to resort to a hoof up field. He doesn't roll it out to Nikos cos he knows that Dabizas will end up giving it straight back to him but on his left foot. If we can get him to reduce his wages I say keep him. I did see Carl Muggleton at the training ground on Tuesday so we might be lining up a replacement!
