James. Posted 12 August 2007 Posted 12 August 2007 Pretty special. A new discovery made after a weekend in Brighton. If you don't smile when you listen to them you are dead inside.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 August 2007 Posted 15 August 2007 They must have been playing in London very close to the Astoria when I went to see BRMC in April cos loads of touts kept shouting "Fat Freddies" - I didn't have a clue who they were on about. What sort of stuff is it?
James. Posted 15 August 2007 Author Posted 15 August 2007 It's really, really soulful music. That sums it up to be honest. There's a reggae/dub influence on some of the more chilled out tracks and some excellent swing type beats on the more uptempo songs. They're just very easy to listen to, very funky and they like their brass sounds. The vocals are fantastic. Imagine Hot Chip on holiday in Jamaica. Anyway, try out their album "Based on a True Stroy" and let me know what you think.
