Fox in a Box Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 4-1-4-1 as adopted in the villa game.. some old hats would call it a 3-5-2 but it was a flat back for with McAulry as a central sweeper.
Floating Fox Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Can't believe so many people have voted 3-5-2 'cus they thought that's what we played at Villa. For starters it was 5-3-2 & for me, it wasn't good football at all. It was a tactical mastermind from Megson, which worked against such a better team but it wouldn't work in the league, it would be boring. 4-4-2 Attack gets it for me, wingers!

I think many people have voted that syatem as it occupies our best players in their natural positions. I think the way it was played on wednesday was negative yes and its not a system I'd like to see too much of in the league. For starters Hume would be the man to play in behind a front 2 of DJ/ fryatt/ MDV with Clemence and Kish/ weso fitness depending behind him. Also it seems to bring out the best in players like Mattock and I think it'd work really well with Chambers or Kaebi on the other side who are much more forward thinking players than stearman (chambers certainly and Kaebi's reports suggest this formation would suit him really well, but we'll have to see. It also allows us to have all 3 centre baks in the side. N'Gotty who I thought was the pick of our defenders on wednesday has done well at RB but he is a rock in the centre and thats where we need him alongside Kisnorbo and McAuley which on paper seems very solid and to an extent was proved on wednesday. Everytime I look at our squad it seems to point to 3-5-2 so why not use it?
