Fat Ron Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Linkage 10:30 - 14 December 2007 It is safe to say fans of Plymouth Argyle are no longer stuck on the idea of their club's old manager, Ian Holloway. If his decision to join Leicester City did not annoy the Pilgrims faithful enough, they could still be subjected to his smiling face all next year. "Ollie" is December on his old club's official 2008 calendar - printed before his departure to the Walkers Stadium. Argyle, though, are launching a cover-up operation and dishing out stickers of the head of new boss, Paul Sturrock to slap over the face of the Foxes coach. Officials from the Plymouth club said calendars were popular with fans, but some might be "a little disenchanted with photos of Mr Holloway". They have arranged for 3,000 replacement stickers featuring new Argyle boss Paul Sturrock, to be distributed. Club retail manager Rachel Fry said: "What better way to say out with the old and in with the new than to have new manager Paul Sturrock's photo included in the calendar? "We know some fans were put off buying the calendar, so this is not only a great idea, but also great fun." The calendar and the stickers are made by Plymouth company Hype. Spokeswoman Lucy Hipkins said: "Ian was really popular with the fans here and it was a big surprise and very sad when he left. "We had to think about what the fans would want and we could not order a new print run of all the calendars as it would cost too much, and they are really popular before Christmas. "So, we came up with the fun solution of the stickers. "Paul Sturrock is known as 'Luggy' and has managed Argyll before, and the fans love him." Fans said they were sad to see Ollie leave their club and did not relish the reminder in the calendar. One, Linda Lee, wrote on BBC Devon's fans' website: "He showed his heart on his sleeve and loved Plymouth Argyle. I thought he would take us somewhere. "I hope he lasts longer than the other Leicester managers." Another, Lockie, wrote: "I'm very shocked at what has happened, disapointed and upset at the IH decision." Ollie took news of the stickers in good humour. Leicester's new manager, who is known for some of the wittiest quotes in football, said: "It is a good job the fans aren't sticking a picture of me over Paul Sturrock's body. "Everyone would be wondering what that big belly is sticking out"
The Stig Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 I never buy the calenders as we ship our old side out every season. By September I'm left with players that left in January and summer. Plus we'll have got through another four managers by this time next year, so a hell of a lot of stickers'd have to be printed.
