Lineker's Left Foot Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 Seems a silly thread and I'm not superstitious, but I think we somehow seem to be 'paying' for punching above our weight under MON. It's as if we didn't deserve those 2 League Cup wins, and now we're paying for it i.e. every player we seem to sign just isn't good enough, always in the media for the wrong reasons, bad refereeing decisions constantly seem to go against us, blah blah blah What do others think .. are we 'paying' for punching above our weight under MON??
act smiley Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 Its just that you only notice how good stuff is when you lose it. (although, to be honest, the switch for my MP3 player isn't exactly on the same level as a League Cup)

davieG Posted 16 December 2007 Posted 16 December 2007 It's nothing to do with 'paying for our success'. We've always been an up and down team, like most of the other 92 teams in the league. The only way you could apply that thought is that we're suffering from complacency and an illusion of granduer. What the club, players and fans need to realise is that the MON success did drop in our laps it was hard fought. The board and successive managers have lost sight of this and think it's easy to be successful, that we just need to turn up and teams will roll over, that we're too big to be relegated. The players turn up and see the stadium and the facilities and end up thinking the same. This 'big club' syndrome is working against us it negates hard work it creates complacency. That's whats held us back this last few seasons. Sure we've not had the best of teams but other clubs with even less resources than us did substantially better through hard work and determination. Milan is almost the ultimate in complacency and arrogance. He seems to think this management lark is easy peasy, an old twat can do it, sign a few players on big salaries and hey ho promotion. Well it don't work that way, the standard of football in this division is not great so hard work and determination can make all the difference. MM also needs to realise that in terms of player salaries and fees things have moved on since his early Portsmouth days and he'll need to stump up more than he has if he wants to get out of this league with quality players as can be seen by last summers signings. Make no mistake financially we're still in the shit, in many ways worse off than before he arrived, we've got another group of players in on 3 year contracts but on bigger salaries than the likes of Hughes, MDV & Douglas. The survival of this club is now wholly dependant on this guy who seems to be demonstrating that he runs this club, well the football side like he's escaped from a mental institution.
