Sri Lankan Cricket Team terroist attack

I would imagine that India/Sri Lanka will co-host it now. Feel so sorry for the ordinary Pakistani cricket loving population, but that country is just not safe to hold major sporting events in anymore.

India and Sri Lanka (and Bangladesh too for that matter) have plenty of security issues of their own at the moment. The whole of that region is unstable.

But expect the Indian Cricket Board, with an eye on revenue, to fight tooth-and-nail against any attempt to move the tournament elsewhere.

Right decision or not would you want to go for a game of cricket there anytime soon? I know i wouldn't.

Very sad news indeed. :(

I'd like to think that had I booked time to watch cricket in Pakistan I would still go but in fact I have never had the desire to set foot in Pakistan for any reason nor do I ever see that changing.

I did have the chance and in fact developed fairly close ties with the great Pakistani squash players of the 70's and even ghost-wrote the coaching articles for world squash champion Qamar Zaman, who hailed from Quetta, close to what is now the terrorist heartland between there and Peshwar, a city that spawned a clan of top squash players.

What has happened in Pakistan only emphasises the impotence or lack of will of the government there to deal with terrorists and further highlights my own fears for the security of my own country and our way of life, including of course the football, which is clearly concerning others too...

Global terrorism in the name of religion is costing the world enormously both in terms of money and freedom. When I think of the good those wasted resources could provide I cringe.

The Muslim fundamentalists want to subject the world to their will and their religion. Much of the world doesn't want to be subjected. The consequences on both sides have already wrecked or changed so many lives but the terrorists won't compromise nor would I expect it.

Already The West has conceded ground it never should in its pitiful naivity while all the time fighting stupid and futile wars that were only ever going to fan the flames of hatred.

The problem of fundamentalist terrorism will be won or lost with the brain not the bomb.

Unfortunately I despair at the so-called brains that govern and direct our country. Intellect we may have but the lack of wisdom is astounding at almost every turn.

Until we end all the hypocrisy and start to stand for something that actually serves this land and protects the peace and freedom which most of us wish for, we will get nowhere.
