Hitesh Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 The people who did this are idiots! The teams haven't done anything to deserve this and its a very sad day for cricket.

Dr The Singh Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 I find the whole episode very odd, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have excellant relationships, infact this tour was due to India backing out....................the jihadist\terrorist have never had a gripe with the Lankans as far as I know!! RIP for the police\soldiers who have died in this terrible event!!!

Stewarmy Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 This is truly shocking and has to put a big question mark over the future of Pakistan as a cricketing nation! In the past couple of years there have been numerous players involved in drug allegations that have been swept under the carpet by the PCB, then there was the debacle of the test that never was and now if it isnt even safe for the teams anymore I can't see that the ICC has any choice? Such a shame for the game and for the Pakistani fans.
Fosse Boy Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Not really the news I wanted to wake up to. Can't see there being all that much test cricket played in Pakistan in the near future now.
C-man Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Pakistan may aswell close their stadiums down, no-one will want to play there. Sad day for cricket and Sri Lanka.
Fosse Boy Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Pakistan may aswell close their stadiums down, no-one will want to play there. Sad day for cricket and Sri Lanka. Not to forget the thousands of innocent Pakistanis who will now no longer be able to watch international cricket in their own country due to the actions of some mindless terrorists.
Corky Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Just a very sad episode. Hope all the players are alright and RIP to those that lost their lives. We won't see Pakistan hosting matches for a long time, me thinks.
Tilley Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Not really the news I wanted to wake up to.Can't see there being all that much test cricket played in Pakistan in the near future now. Fuck the dead people, think of the cricket! RIP those that have lost their lives.
Thracian Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Pakistan may aswell close their stadiums down, no-one will want to play there. So it would start to seem... http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090303/tuk-c...ed-6323e80.html Whether that's the right reaction I have my doubts because it only makes it 1-0 to the terrorists who will only be encouraged to commit similar attrocities.
Fosse Boy Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Fuck the dead people, think of the cricket!RIP those that have lost their lives. I wasn't saying that at all. Do you really think I'm that insensitive?
Fox You Forest Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 So it would start to seem...http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090303/tuk-c...ed-6323e80.html Whether that's the right reaction I have my doubts because it only makes it 1-0 to the terrorists who will only be encouraged to commit similar attrocities. Right decision or not would you want to go for a game of cricket there anytime soon? I know i wouldn't. Very sad news indeed.

I know it may look as though the terrorists are "winning", I'd rather have players, and in turn spectators, safe, and if that means no cricket, then so be it.
Thracian Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Fuck the dead people, think of the cricket!RIP those that have lost their lives. Do you think those killed or injured would have wanted cricket to became the victim of terror as well as themselves? It' s the last thing I'd want, if it happened to me. My daughter-in-law's family had their business blown up by the IRA in Belfast during The Troubles. They had the personal side of those events to cope with too. But they carried on with their lives as normal.
Thracian Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 I know it may look as though the terrorists are "winning", I'd rather have players, and in turn spectators, safe, and if that means no cricket, then so be it. And where do you stop, Corky? When there's no football, no schools, no pubs, no tourist destinations?
Ultra Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 The fact is, NO team will want to tour Pakistan in future unless they can be given credible, cast-iron assurances that atrocities like today's cannot and will not be repeated. Sadly, Pakistan appears a long, long way from being able to give those assurances. It's not the first time these attacks have occurred - in 2002 New Zealand cancelled a tour when a bomb exploded outside their hotel. I hope that the Pakistani government and public can swiftly distance themselves from what has happened and turn out in numbers to mourn those killed. Whatever the motives behind the attacks, they cannot be justified in any way, shape or form. Their main effect will be to isolate Pakistan from the rest of the world. Some misguided Muslim elements may welcome that development, but it will cause further hardship to an already-impoverished population. I'd be surprised if England in particular tour there within the next decade.
Corky Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 And where do you stop, Corky? When there's no football, no schools, no pubs, no tourist destinations? But we could, Thrac, have a situation where people are dying. Innocent people, including players, and then spectators too. It's not just the cricket team at threat, innocent local people could also be caught up in it, making it even worse. This is a massive risk, which goes beyond cricket, and the best solution is to stop cricket being played in Pakistan until there are greater assurances about player safety. It's very sad.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 4 March 2009 Author Posted 4 March 2009 A group of idiots have not only cost lives and families there sons and fathers. But it is now likely the 2011 world cup will be cancelled, cost people vital jobs and vital economy for the country. Aswell as the the countries ability to watch there greatest past time.
BoneDog Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 I'm suprised something like this hasn't happened at any football stadiums. I sometimes take a bag in over my shoulder and I haven't been searched since Filbert Street. Never once been searched at the Walkers.

Don't think the World Cup would be cancelled altogether, though it's possible it may be moved out of Asia.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 March 2009 Posted 6 March 2009 Don't think the World Cup would be cancelled altogether, though it's possible it may be moved out of Asia. I would imagine that India/Sri Lanka will co-host it now. Feel so sorry for the ordinary Pakistani cricket loving population, but that country is just not safe to hold major sporting events in anymore.
