Shit_arse Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Any do it? Who do you work for? and in what sectors? THinking of getting involved and had a couple of offers - money looks good - OTE seems really high What sort have money have you guys earned doign it?
Matt Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 I know my answer isn't really what you are looking for but in the past week my experience of Recruitment Agencies (Is this what you are on about ) is useless, They only seem to cater for Office Work - A big aspect of Office Work (Accountancy, Legal, Secretarial, IT, e.t.c.) but NOTHING absolutely nothing for trade work, As in site work, workshop work, Carpentry/Joinery, Brickwork, e.t.c, Useless, And when they do have work for the trade it isn't the manual labour part of the trade again it is Office Work - Management, Surveying, Planners, Design Technicians, e.t.c. So if anyone know anything about recruitment agencies, has some money stashed away to start a business, and some more money to get you name about and advertise heavily (Because I'm sure there are some about, Its just they are not so well known) I have found a gap in the market, A Specialist Recruitment Market to cater for what seems "Specialist" Jobs, Expect their not actually that specialist...

Thats because the building/trade industry is dead at the minute - You'd be mad to open up in that sector do you work in construction then Matt?
Matt Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Thats because the building/trade industry is dead at the minute - You'd be mad to open up in that sector do you work in construction then Matt? Yes, Hopefully I may have found a job anyway, I phoned a company on Friday and they said pop in and collect a application form, So I did yesterday, When collecting one I asked if they actually had vacancies and they said yes, I said ah great so have their been many apply? And the women said well I have printed 3 application forms out this morning, So I filled the application form in a took it back asap and the women said i'll just see if the manager wants to speak to you, he didn't because apparently he was too busy but he said interviews would commence in the next few days, so I might receive a call during the next few days, Just looks like i'll be fighting it out with a few other people though They said they are stacked out, apparently, Which I do find hard to believe considering the rest of the trade but still if there is chance of a job i'm not going to complain! The trade is slow at the minute, but many companies I have phoned have told me that it's been slow since the start of the year - Which I can agree with because I have experience the trade since the start of they year and only recently made redundant, but apparently now it is slowly picking up, so a few companies have took my name and numbers. As I said in the Business Cards thread, I'm half tempted to go self employed and just get bits and bobs. I got a good redundancy pay off so if I can get a job asap i'm sorted, and will have almost got an extra half a years wage compared to last years yearly wage, its just getting the new job!

What do you do then?
Matt Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 What do you do then? Carpentry/Joinery - More the Joinery side. I was working for a Shopfitting company, Which of course you would have thought would be one of the first sectors of the trade and building work to be hit - People not spending on the high street > Shops not spending out on getting shops refitted or referb's > Shopfitters and Shopfitting Manufacturers getting hit. 4 of us were made redundant last week, and Everyone who survived has had their hours cut, In a way I am seeing it as a positive that I have been paid out and I have a head start looking for a new job over the people currently working there. I am looking for anything with in the trade/Carpentry and Joinery - Within reason, and locally preferably, However I think I see a gap in the market for Kitchen Fitting - Because new builds are a no go as people are not buying/selling house but Kitchen Fitting, Maintenance and Renovation is where I see the work at the moment as people are investing in the houses they have instead of buying and selling the only flaw with that is if people are not spending or fear for their jobs they are not going to 'waste' (Although it's an investment) their money on buying new kitchens, e.t.c
