reynard Posted 30 April 2005 Posted 30 April 2005 Recent comments by Levein indicate he wants to both cut the playing wage bill by 5 million and bring in 5 or 6 new faces. can't see how he will do this unless the summer clearout is much bigger than anyone on here has so far guessed. if he releases the following, walker, dabizas, gillespie, nalis, dublin, gemmill, wilcox, blake, logan and hirschfeld how much would that save. If walker is on 1million a year and dabizas, dublin and gillespie 500k per year that still leaves 2.5 million meaning the other players would have to be on an average of 6k per week to make up the numbers. so to bring new players even more of the current squad will have to go. how many will go? canero< heath, gudjonsson and morris? and what about even Connolly and stewart who must be two of the higher earners. even Tiatto?? it is also easier to see why three year contracts are being given as presumably a lower weekly wage can be offered offset by the advantage of some long term stability for the player involved. it is hard to see many of the above being bought by other clubs so getting 5million off tha wage bill might be difficult. however, the positive is that he will be forced to include some of the better reserve team playes in next years squad and it looks like Levein will try for quality over qantity unless we have more cheap east european imports?????
Louise Posted 30 April 2005 Posted 30 April 2005 He's reducing it on what it was this year (9 million), a budget that included the wages of Scowcroft, Elliott, Jones, Benjamin and Walker (4.5 million). So then he just has to reduce it by a further 500k...perhaps by releasing players, perhaps by selling some and I don't think that would be very hard to do.
MON Posted 1 May 2005 Posted 1 May 2005 (All these figues are estimated)That will not mean such a big thing as is being made out. Scowcroft has left, apparently he was on 20k a week, that is £1.04 million of the wage bill. Elliot was on 30k, that is another 1.560 million off. Benjamin was apparently on 12/13k that is another £650k off the wagebill. Walker will not get the 20k or so he is on now so that is another £1.04 million off the toatal wagebill. Keown was on 10k, as is Dublin. I think Dion will not get that again this time. Maybe 5k if he is kept on. (780000 off the total wagebill) This already amounts to 5.07 million pounds. Then i cannot see Gemmil (3k weekly, total 156k), Dabizaz (7k weekly, total 364k), Blake (5k, 260k) Nalis (6k, 312k) This can be another saving off about 2 million.
step Posted 1 May 2005 Posted 1 May 2005 He has already made most of the savings, we now need to see who he is joining us
