Matt Posted 23 June 2009 Posted 23 June 2009 Paulo Sousa has been officially unveiled as Swansea City's new manager. The 38-year-old Sousa, who left Queens Park Rangers in April after five months in charge, finalised his move today having spoken to his family after verbally accepting a three-year deal last Thursday. The former Portugal midfielder and assistant manager replaces Roberto Martínez after he left the Liberty Stadium to take charge of Wigan Athletic. Sousa becomes Swansea's 12th manager in the past 14 years and will bring a new backroom team to south Wales after Martínez took his managerial staff to the Premier League with him. Sousa is expected to name a multinational team to assist him, with a Portuguese, a Spaniard and an Australian tipped to be by his side. The Swans finished eighth in their debut season in the Championship last term, just outside the play-off places, and Sousa will be charged with ensuring the club are again thereabouts in the 2009-10 campaign.
Edmund Posted 23 June 2009 Posted 23 June 2009 Looks like Scotland and Gomes are also on there way out. Will make life easier for us but it means they should have a bit of cash to spend also including Martinez's compensation package.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 June 2009 Posted 23 June 2009 Tough to predict how he'll do. Was very poor at QPR considering the budget he had to work with, but the working conditions there don't seem to be the best. The loss of Scotland and Gomes will hurt badly if they don't invest the money wisely and if they make a bad start, they'll be down in the mire. Invest well, start brightly and they could repeat their performance of last season.
