Ozwin Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 Got to go to one tommorow, asked the woman at the JC if she had a CV template I could use and she set me up wit this 9-5 bastarding seminar thing. I know how to search for jobs, it's not hard, so I doubt it's going to be that for 8 hours so what possibly can be done in that time? It's at Apex if anyone's ever had to go to it?
Shrenchel Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 Went on one once because everyone was getting made redundant so they put it on and you got a day off if you went. Absolute gash. Run by such a cretin. Complete insult to anyone with any intelligence. Some goon explaining how to use the internet and find CV templates on Word. Apparently there was about 6 people left by the end of the day. We had got thrown out of 3 pubs by 4pm. Job Centre one might be more inspiring though.
Ozwin Posted 31 July 2009 Author Posted 31 July 2009 To be honest I reckon this'll be like that you know. Proper dumbed down stuff, and if it is I'm gonna try and get out early. I only asked for a bloody CV template and she hooked me up to it, I couldn't really turn it down either as she was on the phone as soon as I said it. Thing is if I don't go I won't get no cash next week and I'm skint as it is.
Shrenchel Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 Good luck. The highlight of the morning was when he managed to stretch out being punctual to an interview into a 45 minute monologue.
Ozwin Posted 31 July 2009 Author Posted 31 July 2009 Cheers, first task of the day will be finding the bloody place. I'm dreading it tbh, 8 hours of whatever it is. I really hope it's not gonna be fake interviews and team building and ****, I hate all that. Had enough of it when I was in college.
Brainy Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 "had enough of it when I was in college" Did you go on some kind of skills course then? for going into work
Ozwin Posted 31 July 2009 Author Posted 31 July 2009 Oh no, Connexions were always in on our case doing these sorts of lessons every few weeks.
Brainy Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 oh good. I did one and was an absolute nightmare. had a work placement at bnq for 11 months. first 5/6 months were fine until they started to 'use' me to do their shitty dirty work. got some pretty decent qualifications out of it, including an NVQ in retail
Ozwin Posted 31 July 2009 Author Posted 31 July 2009 I wish I did work experience now. Suppose I still can really.

It's on Charles Street btw, opposite Connexions.
Brainy Posted 31 July 2009 Posted 31 July 2009 Them places are only decent if you can be arsed getting the qualifications, supposing that place is a similar thing I went to. Probably the most boring place i've ever been in my life though. For a year.
Ozwin Posted 31 July 2009 Author Posted 31 July 2009 It wasn't bad actually, dragged on a bit at times but they sorted out my CV and gave us loads of pointers on Interviews and stuff. The woman doing it was a bit of alright too, although I swear she must have been a bit emo in her earleir life because she had scars all up her wrist and arm and stuff. I still would though. Pretty helpful, don't know what I was worrying about.
