Thracian Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 There should be an edge to the game. Not only with City defending their place at the top of the League but also smarting from their setbacks at the hands of Coventry last season. I'll be interested to see the turnout but wouldn't be surprised if it tops 300.
detari74 Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Leicester's 18's won again beating Coventry 3 - 0 this morning with goals from Chamberlain, Yussef and Bolger The team was: Ambrusics, Moore Parkes Bolger Taft Milnes Norburn John Chamberlain Schlupp Yussef Subs: Hicks for Schlupp, Hoban for Norburn
lou Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Sadly only caught the last half an hour or so but we were far superior in terms of possession and skill from what I did see. Jorrin John looks absolute quallity, as did Yussef and Chamberlain! The Cov lads were getting their knickers in a twist and disent towards the officials was pretty bad from them IMO. Nice to see the academy lads win this though and hope the 1st team can continue
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 Very good performance, particularly second half. Liam Moore was superb, as were Adi Yusseff and Jorrin John. They are dealing well with the loss of Craig King. Far more passion and fight than the first team today.
lou Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 U17's won 3-2 as well! Thank God the kids are doing the business for us.
Thracian Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 It was another big rival beaten, a sixth game unbeaten to remain top of the League and City also maintained their record of scoring at least three goals every game. It might have been four. Not long after Bolger scored a characteristic towering header at the back post from Milne's pinpoint cross - his fourth goal in three games, "Keano" as he's known repeated the dose only to have the goal disallowed for a supposed foul on the goalkeeper that none of the fans around me noticed. No matter City took the lead after barely a minute through centre-forward Elliott Chamberlain and Coventry never really recovered. Certainly they had chances - almost all of them falling to their man of the match, the tall number 10 Rob Ogleby who is perhaps a name to remember for the future cos he's surely bound for better things. But, Ogleby apart, City defended stoutly and had close things of their own with John volleying wide, Yussef hitting the keeper's legs when one against one and then successively volleying a ferocious left-footer just over the bar and, after a great Jorrin John pull back, turning his effort just wide with the Coventry keeper beaten. Second half City went for the throat. Chamberlain touched the ball on to Yussef for a simple second half, rounding off an excellent four man to make it 2-0 and when Bolger got the third, there was no way back for the visitors. City keeper Ambrusics might have helped them, mind, when he inexplicably tried to dribble the ball towards the right of goal and got upended but in the event he got away with it. The disallowed goal was next - and was again the result of a pefect cross from influential central midfielder Milne. John's alertness in dispossessing a defender ended with another narrowly off-target strike and the impressive winger almost delivered the perfect ending when he intercepted a punt from the Coventry goalkeeper, instantly tried to chip it back into the open goal, and only failing to hit the target by a few feet. As usual it was cracking entertainment with City right-back Liam Moore typifying City's attitude at 3-0 up by demanding City "Keep going - there's more goals in us yet". Coach Steve Beaglehole was the same yelling for his players to "get closer" to prevent any chance of Coventry escaping the grip of City's closing down in the second half. In the end it was keep ball and even the odd party trick (from John) but Coventry provided tougher opposition than the score perhaps indicates with Ogleby failing in a one on one situation, then blasting another such opportunity high over the bar but always remaining one of the most persistent threats City have faced this season with his strong, fast and clever running. City centre-back Tom Parkes had the unenviable task of trying to keep him quiet. Ogleby had scored in five consecutive games, I was told, but Parkes stuck to his task, made two or three vital blocks and, while riding his luck on occasions, arguably won the battle in the end. Bolger was again immense and didn't lose a header all match in defence. Right-back Liam Moore was utterly uncompromising, set-piece taker Ben Milne was the instigator of so many of City's main threats and Coventry always found it tough containing Yussef and the increasingly impressive Jorrin John. The latter has always been skillful. But his willingness to track back is much improved - he's choosing the right time to pass or take people on and, today, his delivery of passes into the box was both varied, thoughtful and accurate. Little wonder City's ever-increasing following was buzzing afterwards. Once again the club has a team to be proud of.
