Lillehamring Posted 17 November 2009 Posted 17 November 2009 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news...il/article.html ...now, am i being thick here or is park and ride just another way of saying: 'we aren't going to provide a bus route anywhere near where you live, so would you mind driving to your nearest bus route?' and yet when they assess the ivanhoe line they rule it uneconomic because there are not enough 'houses' in the areas the line services - surely that is double standards...that they won't support the railway failing to take into account factors like the city and the tigers, or that people might actually drive to the stations... ....and i fail to see how a 1000 place car park is good for the environment, was it a brown field site?
Unit Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 there's a bus from enderby to town but i think it's for old people/village people who are lazy/live far away/scared of parking in town. weird thing is it goes past me on hinckley road (bit of a route off track) and is pink.
lou Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 No its saying, if you dont fancy taking your car into town and paying a fortune/battling to park in the city centre you can park it here and get a regular bus to town. These schemes are invaluable for some people who do live in rural areas like my in laws. Small villages dont have enough call for buses every 15 mins so I think Park and ride schemes are a good idea. We use the one in Grimston Bar to get to York whenever were up there, in Leicester we live on the main bus route so dont need to. Trust me Id far rather live in a nice village in the country and have to use a park and ride than have a bus every 5 mins and live where I do now

No idea what it was before but neither is having those 1000 cars sitting in heavy traffic in the town centre trying to get a parking spot, good for the environment.

Sir Fynwy Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 You don't need the park and ride in the evening as there are plenty of spaces in the city and little congestion after 7pm, it's not as if you can use the park and ride so that you can have a drink because you'd have to drive anyway.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Similar schemes have stopped the likes of Bath seizing up completely. It's no substitute for a properly subsidized public transport system, but it's not a bad halfway house. Using cars wherever possible, however impractical, is so entrenched in the UK psyche that public transport would have to be BRILLIANT for it to be seen as a viable alternative for a lot of road users. I expect it will be well used as parking in town is such a ballache, but I doubt very much it will dissuade people from parking in the West End for free and making my life an absolute fucking misery, as the anti-residents only parking bunch are rather optimistically claiming. It costs £3ish a day, for starters

Guest Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 To be fair, park and ride in the evening is useless. If people are going to drive, then they will drive to the city centre, and if they want to drink, park and ride is no good. I had an idea re: the park and ride, and nights out. People who live in the sticks want to go out and drink, but taxis are far too expensive. So why not run the buses late into the night, and have taxis waiting at the park and ride sites? This would seriously cut down the prices for people who want to go out in Leicester for some drinks, and live too far out.

Guest Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 does leicester have a 'night bus' program? Ha ha, you are joking?
Lillehamring Posted 18 November 2009 Author Posted 18 November 2009 Ha ha, you are joking? i asked with unfailiing optimism - i'll never do it again....
