Edmund Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11705_5762577,00.html Paul Sturrock has been relieved of his duties as manager of Plymouth Argyle, but will be staying at the club. The Pilgrims have endured a difficult 2009/10 campaign and currently sit second from bottom in the Championship table. They have suffered three consecutive defeats and 12 setbacks in their 19 fixtures so far this term. It has now been decided that a change of direction is required if the club are to stave off relegation and preserve their second tier status. Sturrock rejoined Plymouth in 2007, having enjoyed a productive four-year spell at Home Park between 2000 and 2004. Unfortunately, he was unable to reproduce the success of his first spell second time around and has now paid the price for a disappointing sequence of results. Head coach Paul Mariner, who has been strongly linked with the Pilgrims post in the past, has taken charge of first-team affairs. Sturrock, despite relinquishing the reins, will remain at the club in a business-support capacity, working with Argyle's executive director Keith Todd. "The board has decided to make this move following the continuing poor set of results," chairman Sir Roy Gardner told the club's official website. "Paul Mariner will take charge of all football matters until further notice. "We are convinced that we have the capability to improve our performance and remain in the Championship."
Guest Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 I'm disappointed to see that there was no headbutting involved. What's the world coming to?
Edmund Posted 10 December 2009 Author Posted 10 December 2009 That cowboy hat he wears on the training ground is legendary.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 No major surprise, Plymouth looked every inch a side destined for League One when they came here. Whether a new manager will be able to stop what has been a slow, drawn-out rot since Holloway left them is highly questionable.
Edmund Posted 10 December 2009 Author Posted 10 December 2009 Legend. Reminds me of Frank Burrows and the flat cap. More managers need to flex these hats.
tartanowl Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 I would have him back at Hillsborough in a heartbeat.

He will still be in charge on Saturday. There were strong rumours that Robins (ex player) was going to ditch Barnsley and join us. He's on a rolling contract with clauses. However it turned out to be just a rumour. Lose on Saturday and I think Laws has to go. I've been saying this for weeks though.

I think Darren Ferguson would do a job for you. Badly treated by Peterborough and is a decent manager, could get you some decent Man United loanees as well so wouldn't need to spend like crazy to build a decent side. I'd love you lot to send the Posh down with Ferguson at the helm.
Fox92 Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 Sturrock to sensationally return to Sheffield Wednesday?
