Who ate all the pies? Posted 14 May 2005 Posted 14 May 2005 No that anyone will care, but Joey Hutchison the Darlo cente back that I'm always on about is back in full training. this guy is class and has Prem experience (ok just the one game but he is young). I think he would be the ideal partner for McCarthy in the centre of defence and with Stearman also coming through as well, that's enough to get me excited (it's been a hard week!).

I remeber seeing him play against Mansfield , he was brilliant. Ok i know its League 2 but he looks so composed and comfortable on the ball. Looks like a young Matty Elliott.
Who ate all the pies? Posted 15 May 2005 Posted 15 May 2005 I know that Birmingham didn't want him to leave and he left because he wamted first team football, really is a cracking defender. 100 grand and he's ours I think that's a steal!
Red Mist Posted 15 May 2005 Posted 15 May 2005 Gerrard isn't available on a free. He's a very fine keeper at Championship level (though questionable with crosses / decision-making) but he's on big wages and was, I think, a bit of a luxury in the Championship (and certainly will be in League 1). If we could offload him for c. £250k, I think it would be a good move for us.

You have players that you have to get off yoru wage bill in order to stay in existance, with your situation being so desperate you have no way of commanding 250k trasnfer fees for the lieks of Gerrard. You will be lucky to get that for Commons!

Our finances are pretty sound now and our existence is certainly not at stake. There is a bit of a drop in revenue going down from the Championship, but it's on nothing like the scale of the financial plunge when you drop from the Premiership (there's not much TV revenue to be had in the Championship anyway). Our chairman has given us the same wage budget for next season that we've had this season, so as we've already released a lot of dross (12 players), it means that there is scope to add players rather than a necessity to get rid (there are, of course, players we'd like to move on - step forward Mr Rogers). The chairman has also agreed personally to pay off our overdraft, making us almost debt-free, so we're actually in much better shape financially than we have been for years (shame about the performances on the pitch ).
