Williams fee!?

Williams fee close

The level of compensation Leicester must pay Nottingham Forest for midfielder Gareth Williams will be determined in little over a fortnight.

Williams opted to join the Foxes during the summer rather than sign a new deal with Forest, but City must pay compensation because the Scot was too young to move on a Bosman-style free transfer.

A transfer tribunal, to be convened in London on Monday 23 August, will decide the fee, with Joe Kinnear looking for between £1.5m and £3m.

He said: "Gareth had been at this club since he was 15 and we trained him and paid him his wages until he was 22 - that's probably worth at least £750,000.

"Then you look at Tim Cahill who went from Millwall to Everton for £1.5m last month and factor in the fact Gareth's also a full Scottish international."

Leicester counterpart Micky Adams said: "We'll have to pay whatever fee the tribunal decides is appropriate. We've made a commitment to Gareth and I've told him that."
