Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 Due to the previous owner never using it, the air conditioning in the mighty Astra creates a smell like a damp labrador, which in all honesty I could do without. I've had the system 'cleaned' by both my usual garage (who in fairness admitted that they didn't know what they were doing) and a Vauxhall dealership (who really should know what they were doing, but didn't) with no success either time in that the wet doggy smell came back within a couple of weeks. Does anyone know of a reputable business that might actually be able to sort this out for me? Apparently Kwik fit do a clean and recharge for not too many pounds, but whether calling them reputable is another matter ENTIRELY
Sir Fynwy Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 Has the filter been changed, this may be the cause of the problem.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 February 2010 Author Posted 8 February 2010 It depends which filter you're talking about. The pollen filter was definitely changed at the last service
Zingari Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 assuming you haven't got a damp labrador stuck in the system , i would think you may have fungus and or bacteria growing inside the core , there used to be stuff you could spray inside, that created a fog to kill the fungus , but i can't remember what it's called and maybe best to ask at a garage that specialises what products are available now to combat this . sorry , best i can say
dandannieldanok Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 If all else fails you could just open a window like those of us with crap cars have to do if we're getting warm <_<
Zingari Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 If all else fails you could just open a window like those of us with crap cars have to do if we're getting warm <_< not much use if you're driving down a street full of damp labradors though
Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 February 2010 Author Posted 8 February 2010 I have to keep the windows up to stop them jumping in. They're attracted by the bacon in my glovebox
Zingari Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 that's lucky , they often go for the sausage in your brief box
CupidStunt Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/product.php...708-frigi-fresh The pollen filter was definitely changed at the last service did you do it yourself? or did you let a garage do it? and if so, did you see them do it? Pollen filters first place i'd check, some crs they are placed in the most awkward places and the mech's dont bother bad odour is a normal a build up of mold
Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 February 2010 Author Posted 8 February 2010 My garage used some sort of spray disinfectant that's supposed to circulate through the ventilation system and kill the bad stuff, and although it smelt nice for a few days I'm guessing it didn't kill everything because it got all stinky again soon after. I'm pretty sure that's what the Vauxhall dealership did too, but knowing them they probably just sprayed Rightguard into a vent and hoped for the best. The air con doesn't even get that cold, so it probably needs a recharge too. Kwik fit do this but I trust them about as much as Vauxhall, and there are other places that do it in Ye Olde Yellow Pages but I've no idea who any of them are
